Author's Notes: And here we are at the end! Thank you to everyone for reading along with me--this is one of the projects I'm most proud of, so I'm glad I was able to share it with you. Thank you again, too, to my wonderful betas, tinsnip and Yosie! You two are the best. <3

I look forward to seeing all of you the next time! <3

Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong. This chapter: Strategic meetings.
Author's Notes: So, the other thing I had spent a great deal of time thinking about, in addition to how Keiko might be able to realistically deal with a threat on her own, was how to detect Changelings more effectively than using blood samples. I probably spent the better part of a month mulling this over on my various walks, because as intimidating as DS9 made the Founders, once I saw them introduced, I thought there had to be a loophole or two to exploit--otherwise, well, the Federation was doomed.

I didn't write all the ideas I came up with into the fic, though I did cover a good number of them. It was fun to get the chance to put them to use, so yup!

There they were, side by side, two enemies lying in the same bed and feigning sleep. )

Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong. This chapter: Keiko begins her tests and gathers an ally.
Author's Notes: In addition to having fun with working out what Keiko could accomplish on her own with the tools available to her, I also enjoyed filling out her relationships a little more. Due to her low screentime, we didn't really get to see many of her friendships, so it was neat thinking about how things might look with the important people in her life. Fodder for later fics? You never know.

He chuckled and Keiko laughed along with him, hoping as she did that the shrillness of the sound was only in her imagination. )

Summary: A collection of romantic drabbles featuring Julian Bashir and Elim Garak.
Author's Notes: It's been years since I last attempted to write strict drabbles, and since then, I feel I've grown quite a bit as an author. That said, sticking to exactly one hundred words is hard.

I have no idea how many of these I'm going to write--the list I'm working from has two hundred prompts, but I seriously doubt I'll fill all of them.

Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong.
Author's Notes: This fic comes from two places. First, I had been a fan of Keiko in TNG, and I had been glad when I started watching DS9 to find that she had made the switch between series with me. However, while she did get some very good writing in some episodes, a lot of the time I got the sense that the writers didn't quite know what to do with her. It frustrated me that not only did she occasionally get stuck in the "nagging wife" role in an attempt at humour, but she actually got written out of the show entirely for over a season so that Miles and Julian could have manly bonding time.

So, I wanted to write something that would let Keiko be the badass I know she is in a realistic way for her skill set. And I hope that here I've achieved it.

The second place, I'll talk about more in later chapters. I'd hate to spoil all of you for my own fic, after all!

Though I didn't realise it until I was writing the second-last scene, there's a song that fits this fic extremely well, and is responsible for its title: "The Spinning Wheel" by Michiru, from the album "World's End Village." You can listen to it here and, if you like it, you can buy the track here. There are no lyrics available on the internet--believe me, I've looked. Instead, the quotes have been transcribed by myself, Yosie, and my friend Angie, who introduced me to the song in the first place. Thank you very much!

And thank you to tinsnip and Yosie for kindly taking the time to beta this for me, and for providing lots of encouragement. You two are the best. <3

And now, onto the fic!

'Welcome home, Miles,' she said and kissed him one more time, for the simple pleasure of being able to. )

Summary: Kira has never been a fan of holosuites; Dax thinks it's simply a matter of finding the right program. But putting together something fun for both of them is more of a challenge than even Dax is used taking on.
Author's Notes: So it's February. And I had written femslash a month or so ago. Given that it's Femslash February, I figured now might not be a bad time to post it!

This is a partner piece of sorts to "Clearing Skies." I wrote it second, but it takes place first. Go figure. I have at least one other fic related to this that I want to write, but who knows when I'll actually get to it. :D;;

Summary: Julian and Miles generally don't know much about the history behind their holosuite programs, beyond the information provided by the creators. Captain Sisko, however, does.
Author's Notes: Being Canadian, I'm in something of a different position than American viewers of the American-produced DS9. Normally, that doesn't affect my viewing in the slightest, but every once in a while, having the perspective of an outsider results in some...dissonance.

Miles and Julian's Season 6 and 7 holosuite program is the example that stands out the most to me. I learned about American history outside the American school system, and so my reaction to hearing about their newest program was perhaps--not what the writers were intending. And that's what this fic is about.

'The Alamo?' Sisko repeated. )

Author's Notes: And here we are: the last chapter! I hope everyone has enjoyed reading along, and I look forward to seeing you all next week with the next fic. <3

It doesn't work out quite the way he expected. This chapter: Some changes are made to the program, and to Julian's perceptions.
Author's Notes: Not a lot to say about this one, except that I had a lot of fun writing it, and that this chapter contains the scene that sparked the whole fic.

The credit for the image in this chapter (which is used with permission) goes to petaq, art journal at dziwaczka. If you love the picture half as much as I do, I'm sure praise would not go amiss. <3

Summary: Over the past weeks, without realising it, Julian had been taking Garak's company for granted. But no longer: he's going to make certain to properly include Garak in his life from now on, and the first way he intends to do so is--to invite him along to one of his holosuite sessions with Chief O'Brien.
Author's Notes: This fic comes from two sources: an incredibly awesome commission I ordered from petaq (art journal at dziwaczka), and from reading A Stitch in Time by Andrew Robinson, specifically the parts where Garak gets jealous of Julian and Miles' holosuite sessions. With both of those things in mind, I ended up writing this last May, although I haven't had time to clean up and post it until now. I had a lot of fun writing this and learned quite a bit about the Battle of Britain into the bargain, so I hope everyone enjoys the piece!

Thank you to tinsnip for checking this over to make sure relationship things unrolled realistically. I owe you one. <3

Summary: Julian has decided to at last take the big step of showing Elim his soulmark, but what's supposed to be a straightforward relationship event...isn't.
Author's Notes: I actually knew very little about this trope and had to look it up when I arrived at this point on the list. I then proceeded to NOPE pretty hard about it, particularly after a series of discussions with bendingsignpost about all the many unfortunate implications a trope like this has.

Actually, this is my second version of the fic. My first time through, I tried to eliminate as many of the aforementioned unfortunate implications as I could, but when I came back to what I had written after leaving it for a while, I realised that I'd only gotten rid of some of them and the result was still creepy. I'm pretty sure I've missed still more unfortunate implications in this rewrite (and sometimes Julian's thought processes don't help), but given the problematic nature of the trope, I figure there's only so much I can do.

So with that enthusiastic introduction...enjoy the fic?

Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: Julian and Garak's time together comes to an end, but their gifts to each other aren't quite complete yet.
Author's Notes: And here we are, at the end of the month and at the end of these two's time together. Thank you very much to everyone who's read along--it's been lovely sharing the holiday with you this year.

As a heads up, since I spent pretty much all my time on this for the last couple of months, there'll be a bit of a gap before I'm able to post my next fic. I have lots of stuff waiting in the wings that needs only to be dictated and polished, but finding time to do as much is easier said than done.

Until then, may 2014 be the best year ever for everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all with a fresh batch of fics in the new year. <3

Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: Christmas Day.
Author's Notes: Merry Christmas! I hope Santa was kind to those of you who left their metaphorical chimneys open for him, and all the best wishes to those of you who don't celebrate the holiday. To those of you for whom this is a difficult time of year, I hope you find peace.

This chapter, of all of them, is made of spun sugar--but if you've read this far, I'm going to assume you don't have any objections to that sort of thing. I wrote this well before propheticfire submitted a certain headcanon to the Deep Dish Nine blog on tumblr, and so I was greatly amused when it turned upon my dash. We went sort of in completely opposite directions with it, though.

Thank you to Lady Yate-xel, who was kind enough to loan me a certain idea of hers. <3

Once again, all my love and gratitude to everyone who's read my fics and supported me this year. All of you are awesome and I'm so lucky to have each and every one of you in my life. <3

Author's Notes: And in this chapter I continue to enjoy including cameos from the other characters, because DS9 has such a great cast. A tip of the hat goes to tinsnip's delightful "Dancing in a Dance Club" for a certain part of this, which should be immediately obvious upon reading. ♥

He began reevaluating said decision when, out of the scattered mass of belongings that had once somehow fit into a single large suitcase, Julian produced a garish Santa hat. )

Author's Notes: While I had originally envisioned this fic as having a tighter scope (and much fewer words), it was about now that more of the characters in the world of Deep Dish Nine started dropping by for a visit. Given I generally have a great time writing all of them, it wasn't much of a hardship to let them stay.

Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: adventures with airports.
Author's Notes: So this accidentally turned into the equivalent of a Nano project for me. And, like a Nano project, this isn't nearly as polished as I'd really like it to be. However, Christmas doesn't wait for perfectionists. Alas.

This is pure, unadulterated slice-of-life fluff from start to finish, by the way. Anybody looking for action or angst or complexity should probably look elsewhere. Anyone who wants to feel warm and cosy, though, make yourself at home!

I borrowed a little bit more from tinsnip and Lady Yate-xel's discussions than usual, so I suppose you could say this AU is ever-so-slightly AU--at least where my version of it is concerned, anyway.

On a serious note, this fic is dedicated to anyone for whom Christmas is not a time of good cheer. I wrote this as a way of showing what I think Christmas should be, not necessarily what it is. If you're going to have a difficult holiday season, then I hope reading about Julian and Elim having a good one will be able to give you something of an escape, even for a little while.

That's all. I hope everyone enjoys as I post this over the next few weeks. ♥

Author's Notes: My apologies to anyone who had been expecting something of any length for this prompt. When I arrived at this point in the list, I read the trope name and went "NOPE." So--here you are.

The good thing about having a highly accomplished doctor as a friend was that, when he was dosed by what was no doubt the sexual cousin of the Omicron pod plant on the planet on which they had just crashed, within seconds Dr. Bashir had snapped out the tricorder from his salvaged medkit, scanned him, and hit him with the appropriate hypo. )

Summary: The closer Julian and Garak become, the less distinct the borders of their respective cultures grow.
Author's Notes: This is an early piece I wrote, both as a way of laying out for myself how a cultural exchange between Julian and Garak might go, and as a challenge, to see if I could write an interesting fic without dialogue. Whether I've succeeded remains to be seen.

Someday, I may do a follow-up piece with these two involving the less obvious cultural details and how they mesh (or don't), but I have a lot of writing projects I intend to do first, so I'd advise against holding your breath.

The first time at lunch that Julian had ordered red leaf tea and Garak had ordered orange pekoe, Julian had actually hurt his face grinning. )
