Summary: When O'Brien doesn't answer Sisko's hail over his combadge, Sisko and Odo assume the worst. In this case, however, their pessimism may not be called for--and may, in fact, make things a touch awkward.
Author's Notes: Because everyone in Star Trek jumps to conclusions way too often, and it has to have bitten them in the ass at least once or twice over the years.

Summary: Ever since Dr. Bashir started inviting Garak to Quark's for drinks, he's become very particular about who touches his glass. Garak intends to find out why.
Author's Notes: I really, really did not expect to enjoy writing this nearly as much as I did. There's just something about a lifelong vampire phobia that suggested to me that #19 would not be one of my favourites. And yet here we are.

Author's Notes: Here it is--my entry for Star Trek Friendshipfest 2015! I was assigned persiflet, who likes explorations of cultural differences. I tried to oblige, but this thing kind of wanted to go in its own direction. Whoops.

Summary: When "Torin" Garak's coworker asks him to get rid of the Human boy asking for a job at their Cardassian restaurant, Garak decides to do the manager's job for her and hire "Julian Banting" instead.
Author's Notes: ngl this was one of my absolute favourite fics to write out of the entire series, and like the Arranged Marriage one, I have a few more ideas for it kicking around the back of my head. Whether I'll get around to them remains to be seen, but I hope I'll have the time eventually.

Summary: Keiko has many beautiful smiles. The one she wears when she suggests that they should invite Julian and his new partner Garak over for a dinner party is not remotely one of Miles' favourites.
Author's Notes: I've been meaning to get around to posting this one for, um, over a year now. Whoops.

I don't think I've ever written anything from Miles' perspective before, actually! It was a bit of a challenge, in that I didn't want to write some of his more 90s TV husband traits but I also wanted to stay true to his character. Balancing his actual reasonable dislike of Garak with him also being grumpy was interesting as well.

I'm not sure if I'll be writing anything else from his point of view any time soon, but it was a good exercise in the meantime. And it was an excuse to write more about Keiko, as well as one of my OTPs, and I never say no to that!

Also: I've included a bonus wry joke for anyone who's read A Stitch In Time. Five points if you catch it. <3

Miles didn't like smiling. )

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: There is a new resident of the hamlet of Bajor--a Cardassian, they say. In spite of being warned against it, the Honourable Julian Subatoi intends to investigate these curious circumstances.
Author's Notes: I'll be honest with all of you: this is another trope that's not a favourite of mine, because, not to put too fine of a point on it, I am an old fart. Though I set this a fair bit farther forward in pseudo-history than was probably intended by the trope, the classism is still pretty intense in this and it's topped off with a sprinkling of sexism, so, well, be warned.

That said, I still had some fun with language and wordplay in this. Anybody who can tell me why Julian's home is called what it is gets a cookie (and no, it isn't named after Khan).

'He's a tailor.' Her brows drew together. 'From Cardassia.' )

Summary: The first Lovers' Day since Jadzia's death, Kira has to make a decision.
Author's Notes: Happy Femslash February! I had been expecting to celebrate the month with my current favourite femslash couple, Kira/Jadzia, but then this popped into my head and demanded to be written. I didn't think I shipped Kira/Ezri, but after writing this I sure do!

Slightly AU, set in a 'verse where reassociation is not a taboo among the Trill. (Although lbr, given Ezri was also a Starfleet science officer on exactly the same station and with exactly the same friends as her previous host, I don't think the writers were too concerned about that by Season 7.)

And so Kira had gone to the holosuites and had beaten the shit out of as many computer-generated images as she could until she had been too exhausted to grieve. )

Summary: To repair the damage done by its interference with its colonists in the Demilitarised Zone, the Cardassian government has proposed a marriage-enjoinment between one of its citizens and one of the Federation's to symbolise the renewed relations between the two governments. Julian had gladly agreed to marry Garak, Central Command's "volunteer," but now he's learning all over again that nothing to do with Cardassians in general and Garak in particular is as simple as it appears on the surface. This chapter: The wedding-enjoinment ceremony.
Author's Notes: Holy shit, y'all. I had not been expecting this level of response. I'm very glad to see that this has been well received, and I can only hope the concluding chapter is a satisfying one.

Anyone who's curious about the song Garak sings in this, click here once you've finished the chapter.

Thanks for reading!

Whoever had come up with the tradition of not seeing your partner before the wedding, Julian decided, had been a sadist. )

Julian had gladly agreed to marry Garak, Central Command's "volunteer," but now he's learning all over again that nothing involving Cardassians in general and Garak in particular is as simple as it appears on the surface.
Author's Notes: The sequel to Chapter 12 of my fic involving the 30=Day Cheesy Tropes challenge. The trope was, unsurprisingly, "arranged marriage." I had been trying to keep thing short, but by the time I finished writing that chapter, I had way more ideas in my head that were demanding I write them. Eventually, I gave in and got down some of them, and this is the result.

Who knew this trope could be so much fun?

'But the fact of the matter is, I can't make someone else do this. At the very least, I know Garak, and I know that, whatever he might have done, it's in the past. He's a different man now, I'm sure of it.' )

Prompt four: Nog at Starfleet Academy. Does he need special accommodations? How does he deal with the culture shift? Does he find the climate of San Francisco pleasant or unreasonable?

I would absolutely love to have made this longer, but at the time of its writing, my offline life hadn't been conducive to writing, so, well, that's all I've got.

Summary: Julian knows that someone will rescue them from this supply closet soon. Garak knows that someone will rescue them from this supply closet soon. It's just Garak's claustrophobia that hasn't got the message.
Author's Notes: Another short one, but honestly, with one half of this couple excruciatingly claustrophobic, it would have taken some serious gymnastics to make this one any longer. Whoops.

Before we get going, I want to thank everyone who's commented to my fics over the past few months. My brain weather has been...less than ideal lately, so I haven't been able to respond to comments, but I hope you all know how much I treasure every one. When things are going a bit better inside my head, I hope to give all of you the thoughtful responses you deserve. That just may not be for a while. But until then--thank you. <3

Author's Notes: I had so much fun with being as terrible as possible in this one. Dukat may be a horrible person, but damn if he isn't a blast to write sometimes.

Thank you very much to tinsnip, who reblogged this travel calculator at exactly the right time for me not to make embarrassing timing mistakes with this fic. :D;;

Summary: After yet another victory for the Klingon Empire, Martok joins his soldiers in celebrating at Quark’s. However, there is one Klingon who sits alone.
Author's Notes: Oh boy, oh boy, was this ever hard. While I can certainly respect the amount of time and thought both the makers of Star Trek and Klingon fans have put into Klingon culture…it is really, really not my thing. About the only place where Klingons and I agree is how awesome singing is. Other than that, well—it’s Cardassians and Vulcans for me. So when I saw this week’s challenge, I knew what I had to do.

I still can’t believe I wrote this.

Summary: Ever since transferring to this particular building of Deep Space Co., Julian has had an unusual problem: he's getting along too well with one coworker in particular. Now he and Elim are facing the (hopefully metaphorical) firing squad.
Author's Notes: Er...hi. :D;; I didn't mean to go on hiatus, but it's amazing what moving 1800 km, spending two weeks in another country, and apartment hunting will do to your free time. I don't think I'm going to be right up to my usual schedule for a while yet, but I do hope to post more often from now on.

Another contributing factor to the space between updates would be that this was yet another trope that I needed to rewrite. I just wasn't happy with how it had turned out and the decisions I had made about the AU, so there was a fair bit of reworking going on. It's still not my favourite, but I like it a lot more than I did when I first started editing! :D;

He'd never thought, before meeting Elim, that getting along well with someone could be a problem. )

Summary: The truest pleasure in Tekeny Ghemor's life is the regular correspondence he shares with his daughter, Kira Nerys.
Author's Notes: Ghemor is one of my absolute favourite minor characters in any Star Trek series, and I simply adore his relationship with Kira. But I couldn't believe that, when he returned in "Ties of Blood and Water," that they'd had no contact whatsoever in two years! So, rather than them spying on each other for news, I decided to write this.

'Hello, Tekeny,' she greets him. He still can't convince her to call him 'Father.' Maybe someday. )

Summary: Kai Winn had three chances to turn away from the path of the Pah-Wraiths. In DS9's canon, she chose the third. This is what might have happened if she had chosen differently.
Author's Notes: One of my least favourite things about Season 7 is what the writers did to Kai Winn. Her dubcon relationship with Dukat sat extremely poorly with me for many, many reasons. Beyond the obvious, it read to me like punishing a female character with sex for seeking power, and that's just fantastically gross. I may not be a fan of Winn as a person, but as a character, I thought she was terrific until everything went to hell (pun not intended).

That said, this fic also came from the way it seemed to me that Winn had three chances to get off her path to the Pah-Wraiths. In the show, it was when she told Sisko to destroy the book that she finally did, but it was too late for her. I picked out a couple of other moments where things might have gone differently and had fun exploring what could have happened. And I enjoyed myself immensely.

She had strained her ears in a perverse kind of hope that she would once more be cursed by the voices of the Pah-Wraiths. )

Summary: Julian thinks things are looking rather grim when he and Garak are captured by the Romulans. As it turns out, they aren't.
Author's Notes: This trope was made for these two and I was very amused when I got to it. (I also tried to keep this one short in reaction to the previous chapter. It worked for today's fic, then stopped working after that for the most part.)

'Now what? Without my combadge, we can't—Garak, what are you doing?' )
