Summary: Sometimes innocence can be dangerous.
Author's Notes: This one's quite old, as the mention of Giles indicates. (Or maybe it's ahead of its time?) I'm guessing this conversation happened at some point in canon in some form; this is just how I think it might've occurred.
For the non-Legendia players: Orerines = human; Ferines = people of the water (an aquatic, water- and air-breathing species native to Melfes, to which which Fenimore, Walter, and Stella belong)
"Fenimore," she says one day in the kitchen, "do you think you could explore the underwater ruins?"
"Huh?" Fenimore holds out her hand for another scrubbed potato; Grune gives it to her.
"Giles wants to find out what they're like, so I said you could help him." She can't remember exactly when she told him that—she thinks it must have been a little while ago. Or was it a long while ago?
". . . You what?"
Grune blinks. For some reason, Fenimore has gone very still.
"You didn't tell him I'm a Ferines, did you?" Fenimore's voice is a little louder than usual and Grune thinks she might be a little pale, too. Is she getting sick?
"Hmm. . . ." She thinks about Fenimore's question for a while. "I said you could help . . . I think."
Fenimore starts chopping her potato, hard. Grune is about to tell her to be careful when she speaks.
"Grune, you can't just go around telling everyone I'm not an Orerines."
"Why not?"
"Because—because it's dangerous, that's why!"
". . . Why would it be dangerous?"
"Why—?" Fenimore slams the knife down on the cutting board. She bows her head, breathing hard. Before Grune can lay a hand on her shoulder in concern, Fenimore looks up—then down again. ". . . Because some Orerines don't like people who are different from them, and they think it's all right to hurt them." She rubs at her arms. "That's why."
"But Giles wouldn't do that," she says, her concern only growing.
"No, he's. . . ." She smiles briefly, still keeping her head down. "He's a nice person. . . . But not everyone in Luceti is." She looks up at Grune at last. "Promise me you won't tell anyone else that I'm a Ferines?"
She still doesn't understand why, but it seems to be very important to Fenimore, and so. . . . "I promise."
"Thanks, Grune." Fenimore takes up her knife again and gets back to work. "I appreciate it."
Before she picks up another potato, Grune steps over and wraps her arms around Fenimore's shoulders. Fenimore is stiff at first, but then she sighs and relaxes.
". . . Potato," she says, and—oh yes—Grune starts washing the next.

Honestly, I'd say the fact that you got me asking these questions about Fenimore should be sign enough that you did a good job here. But, very nice work as always, Vyc.

Grune is, of course, the bestest friend ever, however, so I'm sure Fenimore can forgive her XD Also Giles wanting to explore the ruins haaaaa and Grune offering a friend's help without asking the friend's permission first HAAAAAA. Grune. ILU.
