Title: Perennial
Fandoms:
luceti, Tales of Legendia, Tales of Phantasia
Genre: Romance
Rating: G
Words: 222
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the above fandoms.
Summary: Grune reflects on how very quickly Dhaos has become vital to her.
Author's Notes: This was originally the opening to another fic I hope to post soon (working title: "Resquiescat in pace"), but I decided it strayed too far from the overall focus. It works decently enough as a stand-alone drabbly thing, though, so I tweaked it and cleaned it up, and thus here we are.
It takes longer than usual to convince Dhaos to let her go out alone into the next unfamiliar world. It is only to be expected, after the task she has just completed. There had been no beings resembling him on her last world and no possibility of disguising him (they could pretend accident for one missing limb, or two—but not four), and so she had bid him farewell and left him to guard the mana tree in her absence.
She had returned—to his perception of time—bare days later, but she had been unable to conceal from him that her victory had been nearly a defeat. It was clear that, in her absence, he had been dwelling on his inability to help; that the safety of a world had been in such danger while he had been able only to rest within the tree and wait had clearly disturbed him more still.
She would have reminded him that she had accepted the never-existence of enough worlds to fill millions upon millions of galaxies—but truthfully, she had come to rely upon his comfort so quickly. One scant century, and yet her first thoughts upon rebirth are always of him. He is her perennial seed of hope, giving new life season after season not to the worlds endangered by Schwartz's misguided love, but to her.

Well, I can see how this might be cut out of a fic, but it does stand well on its own XD

Date: 2012-03-17 06:49 pm (UTC)Oh, he definitely does. I mean, he's the only other person beside Schwartz who's a constant in her life. That alone would be huge, but then she's in love with him on top of that. She's definitely going to be relying on him. ♥
Yeah, I was surprised! But definitely in the good way.
By the way, I posted a couple of Dhaos things while you were separated from your internet, so here. Enjoy!
