Summary: When she's unable to help a dear friend in need, Grune at last reaches a decision.
Author's Notes: Something small I wrote to fill in the gaps between Cecil and Selphie's reactions to Ceodore's departure and Grune's first serious conversation with Nala, more to sort things out in my head than anything else. Anyone who wants to see what was going through Grune's head at that point is more than welcome to read, though. ♥
Grune didn't go right home from Selphie and Ceo—from Selphie's apartment. Instead, she continued on to the special garden; though the flowers and trees were all fast asleep at the moment, it was still a source of strength and comfort.
She had nearly gone to Dhaos' apartment—he lived in the same building as . . . Selphie. She had even gotten partway up the first flight of stairs leading to his home. But, in the end, she had turned around and left. Being near Dhaos would make her feel better, but . . . right now, she needed time to think.
When she reached the garden, she went over to one of the benches, brushed away some snow (somebody had already cleared off most of it), and sat. For a while, that was all she did. She sat, and breathed in the cold winter air, and listened to the birds and the distant sounds of everyone living their lives. Her gaze rested on her green wool mittens, but her thoughts were in the past.
This morning, when Cecil had started screaming, she'd thought he was being attacked. Maybe, somehow, a monster had gotten into the village and he was hurt. And he had been hurt, but there had been no monster, and he had been so sad because Ceodore had gone away. He had been too sad to heal himself and she didn't know how. All she could do was hold him and clean his cuts and hold him again.
She couldn't heal. Norma could and Cecil could and Link could and so many other of her friends could, but she couldn't. She didn't know why. It was something very important to her, but no matter how she tried, the eres wouldn't come. It was something that had made her sad for a long time. A long. . . .
. . . When she had gone to protect the village, she had taken as many gels as she could carry and had given them to everyone she could find, but she hadn't been able to make everyone feel better. And on the last day, she'd run out. She hadn't been able to heal anyone then.
Why hadn't she learned to heal when she had come back? She couldn't remember. It couldn't have been because she'd forgotten, could it? Not something that important. There must have been another reason—a good one.
She sighed and lifted her head, then stood. Well, she would just have to try her best and learn now. She would work hard so that none of her friends—so that no one would have to be hurt again.
But first . . . she would go to the flower shop and look at the seeds there. She needed to find something to plant for Ceodore in the spring. Something strong and brave and sweet, just like him. Something he would come back and see and be happy.
Decided, she left the garden, and now that she had purpose in her heart, she could smile warmly at everyone she met on her way.

Date: 2012-02-09 07:47 pm (UTC)XD;; It's still a massive work in process, the rest is a complete mess. On the plus side, I've got rid of most of the old, not-working HTML! On the other hand, it screwed with my formatting a bit :( I wanted the two bottom categories to be, like,
Header header header
Description goes here
with no gap :(
