Author's Notes: This was a lot of fun to write. Once again, I found a lot easier to work from Dhaos' point of view for purposes of keeping succinct and keeping to the theme. Here's hoping I actually managed to keep him in character!

Try though he might, Dhaos can't pin down the day when Grune's company turned from irritant to refuge.
02. Kiss
His lips are hesitant on hers, and for one brief moment, Grune thinks she at last understands everything.
03. Soft
One of her secret, treasured memories of being married to Dhaos is the feel of his hair between her fingers.
04. Pain
Karion, Winona—but he will not allow Grune to join the ranks of the lost.
05. Potatoes
At least it isn't sweets.
06. Rain
Dhaos hurries Grune back to House 34 before Luceti's more unsavory elements get any ideas from her clinging, rain-soaked clothes.
07. Chocolate
He manages to eat a few of the heart-shaped chocolates in front of Grune, then leaves them out for the rest of CH3 to take once she's gone.
08. Happiness
It's with a sudden shock that he realises one sunny afternoon, Grune dozing against his shoulder, that he's happy.
09. Telephone
It's one of the many frustrating things about Grune: Dhaos could tell her something plainly and it would still come back garbled five minutes later.
10. Ears
Giggling, Grune stands on tiptoe to pet his brand new cat ears, and Dhaos wishes with a soul-deep passion for this experiment to be over.
11. Name
The Prince of Elusion and Demon King Dhaos don't exist here—to Grune, he is and always will be simply "Dhaos."
12. Sensual
It's Grune's innocent ignorance of her appearance that makes her truly beautiful to his eyes.
13. Death
Though he might press his hands to his face hard enough to bruise, he will never be able to shut out the sight of what he has done.
14. Sex
While his first reaction is disbelief—how could even Grune not notice a change like this? —eventually, it becomes a strange comfort that there is one person who still sees him as he's meant to be.

Somehow, with only the touch of his hand to her cheek, Dhaos can make her as happy as if he'd given her a warm hug.
16. Weakness
When he had been alone, he had been stronger; now he must never let on his feelings during the drafts, or he will draw her into danger.

After Fenimore has so carefully broken the news of Dhaos' death, it's only when a handkerchief is pressed into her hands that Grune realises she's crying for the very first time.

It's for the best angels are so long-lived, or Dhaos would pass most of his life waiting for Grune to catch up.

With his hair, her veil, and his mantle, it's a wonder they don't become tangled beyond escape on windy days.
20. Freedom
He drifts into awareness when a woman he never expected to see again appears before the Great Tree; even if he no longer has a heart, something inside him leaps when she speaks his name.

Even after death has barred him from his home and all he loved, he discovers here in Luceti, there is still someone worth living for.
22. Jealousy
There are some days he wants to rip that necklace from her throat.
23. Hands
Dhaos' hand feels right in hers, but it's a different kind of right than when she's with Giles—she's not sure why.

Cloud-watching has never been high on his list of preferred activities, but with Grune, he finds it . . . acceptable.

When he sees her wander back to pick up oranges for the fourth time, he tugs the basket from her hands and resigns himself to an afternoon of shopping.

One of the few times she ever sees Dhaos truly angry is when she walks into the room immediately after the words "Mana Cannon" have slipped from Sheena.

He changes the water in the wild roses daily; he had no need of being thanked, but . . . it has been so long since anyone gave him flowers.

She doesn't understand why, but she always wants to smile just a little more for Dhaos.

"It's all right if you make mistakes, as long as you try your best."

When he finds dandelion leaves amidst the poppies after they spend a full day of weeding every inch of Grune's garden, he takes it as a personal insult.

There are some memories flowers and smiles can't banish.

Sometimes, looking up into the beautiful blue sky and remembering the feeling of being held close and safe as the ground passed below can be a little lonely.
44. Heaven
Understanding now what she truly is, he feels both insignificant and corrupted, but such is her goodness that, somehow, she loves him all the same.
45. Hell
If he could rip out that twisted part of him at any cost, he would without hesitation, so that someone so pure as Grune would never have to know him as the Demon King.

Like the sun, Grune's smile is warm, brilliant, and shines impartially upon all—or so he believes.

He's almost used to a hand slipping into his as he watches the stars.

Try as she might, nothing can induce Dhaos to go swimming.

Grune looks up at him with such innocent trust as he pulls apart the strands of her braid that he barely breathes.

The official greatest failure at shipping in the known universe would like to notify you that #26 is great.
I liked the Ginia set more overall, tho; less ship focus made for funnier vignette details. But as said above, I'm the official greatest failure at shipping in the known universe, so take that opinion with the whole salt shaker. XD

I really did like it, both because it's understated which's what I always like best, and 'cause it keeps so well with the "usual" Aseliaverse tone of being quietly sad with hope at the end.
