Title: The Importance of Honest, Direct Communication
Fandoms: (This part) [livejournal.com profile] luceti, Tales of Legendia, Tales of Phantasia, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Genre: Humour/romance
Rating: PG
Words: 2063 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the above fandoms.
Summary: The early days of Grune and Dhaos' relationship, as seen through the eyes of Fenimore, Norma, and Dhaos. Part 2: After worming some shocking news out of Fen-Fen, Norma has a big important talk with G-Girl.
Author's Notes: So my voice recognition software doesn't like Norma's nicknames. Sob.

Also, I made some assumptions while writing this, chiefly that Dhaos would eventually get sick of Norma's assumptions about his relationship with Grune and informed her they weren't actually sweeties. Whether that's going to actually happen in canon remains to be seen.

Chapter 1

There was definitely something up with Fen-Fen tonight, Norma decided as she dished out yet another helping for herself of Sweetie's amazing apple pie. For one, she kept on going red at weird times, and for another? She was trying not to look at G-Girl. And if someone was passing up a chance to feast their eyes on that unreal beauty, there was something seriously wrong.

So what was a girl to do but corner her after supper to find out the truth? It was for her own good. Fen-Fen would thank her for it later.

"So, Fen-Fen, spill." Norma leaned casually on the counter next to where the Ferines girl was doing the dishes. (Hey, why wasn't her hair doing its cool glowing thing? Maybe she wasn't wet enough yet.) "What happened between you and G-Girl?"

"N-Nothing happened!" Fen-Fen said defensively, banging a couple of forks into the soapy water. She was back to blushing, too. Ohohoho.

"Really."

"Yes, really! I don't even know why you'd think something happened in the first place."

"Let's see. . . ." Norma pretended to consider things carefully. "It could be the way you've been blushing all evening—kinda like now. Or it could be the way you nearly dropped the salt trying to pass it to G-girl without taking your eyes from your plate. Or—ooh, I know! —it could be the way you're gonna polish the paint off Sweetie's dishes if you don't watch out."

Fen-Fen glared at her. "Look, I'm fine, okay? I just need a little time to. . . ."

Norma leaned forward, all ears. Now they were getting to the juicy stuff! "To . . . ?"

". . . Never mind." Fen-Fen plunked her poor, abused plate into the drying rack.

"Never mind?" Norma squawked indignantly. "Come on, you can't lead a girl on like that!"

Fen-Fen's hands went still in the sink, and Norma could just see the gears clicking away in her head. Finally, she started, "I. . . ."

Norma got right up in Fen-Fen's face. "You what? Spill, spill, spill!"

"I caught Grune and Dhaos kissing in the garden, all right?" Fen-Fen all but yelled, her cheeks sunset red.

Norma's jaw dropped so hard, she nearly dislocated it. "What?"

"Now will you leave me alone?" Fen-Fen demanded, her shoulders hunched over the remaining dishes.

There was no way Norma was letting this go. "Hold on a minute. You're saying you saw G-Girl and Little D liplocked?"

"Yes!"

"Are you sure it wasn't Four Eyes or someone?" Specifically, someone who hadn't once informed her in no uncertain terms that he wasn't dating G-Girl?

Fen-Fen gave her a confused look. "'Four Eyes'?"

"You know, old guy, wears glasses, likes to hold hands with G-Girl a lot?" For all he was going grey and everything, he still seemed like a better candidate than crankypants Little D—even if Little D had been in G-Girl's bed. . . . Her poor mind.

"You mean Giles?" Fen-Fen gave her a weird look. "Norma, how could anyone get those two mixed up?"

"Shock?" Norma suggested, although Fen-Fen did have a point. Little D flew around and had enough hair for three people—not to mention he was huge. He was pretty unique.

Fen-Fen's shoulders slumped. "No, um, it was Dhaos. Trust me on this one."

Norma shook the thought of Four Eyes out of her head (she had been sure. . . ). Focus, Norma! This was super-important! "I had no idea Little D was such a cad! Oooh, that makes me mad! Taking advantage of G-Girl like that!"

"I'm . . . pretty sure she likes it," Fen-Fen said awkwardly.

Now it was her turn to be giving out funny looks. "Come on, Fen-Fen, this is G-Girl we're talking about! She probably doesn't even know what kissing is."

Fen-Fen winced. "She seemed to have a pretty good handle on it out in the garden." She turned away. "I don't like the idea any more than you do, but it looks like Grune has, um . . . a boyfriend now." The side of her face looked just as weirded out Norma felt. "We're just going to have to get used to it, I guess."

"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm gonna get things straightened out with G-Girl right now." She shook her head. "I mean, it's totally unfair she was keeping this a secret! We're her best friends—she should tell us everything!"

"Hmm. . . . Yeah, I am kind of surprised she didn't say anything." Fen-Fen made an amused sound. "Maybe she forgot."

"Yeah, that'd be our G-Girl, all right," Norma agreed. "Well, I'm off! Nice chatting with you, Fen-Fen!"

"I suppose it'd be too much to hope you'd dry those dishes," she heard Fen-Fen call after her, which only sped her up.

"Huh? Didn't hear you—gotta run, bye!"

Hearing Fen-Fen's resigned sigh, she grinned to herself. Score one for Norma!

*

Her luck only continued when she found G-Girl actually in her room, and not off wandering she didn't even know where in the village. She was standing at her window, either staring outside or just staring—you never could tell with her.

"Hey, G-Girl, what's up?"

G-Girl turned from the window after a moment's pause, her fingertips falling from her lips. "Hello, Norma. Are you here for a visit?"

"Yup! Well, sorta. Have a seat."

Norma took the chair by G-Girl's drawing desk (jeez, how many pictures of flowers did anyone need?), leaving her friend to settle on her bed.

"So I hear you and Little D are sweeties, now, huh?"

A dreamy smile appeared on G-Girl's face. "Yes, that's right. He's my special someone now." Her smile deepened slightly. . . . Wow. It was like watching a kid with her first crush. Adorable as anything, yeah, sure, but seriously, she'd only stated a fact here!

All right. Time to get down to business. "I'm really happy for you, G-Girl, but we gotta talk about some stuff. Important stuff," she made sure to emphasize.

Predictably, G-Girl looked puzzled. "Oh? What kind of important stuff?"

"Really important stuff, so you better listen up," she told her firmly. "This is for your own good!"

"All right," G-Girl said amicably. She wasn't exactly the picture of an attentive listener, but Norma was going to take what she could get.

"When a guy wants to be your sweetie, he's gotta treat you right. Otherwise, he's just a two-timing cad who's only got one thing on his mind," she said significantly.

"Oh? What's that?"

Norma didn't facepalm, but it was a near thing. "Never mind. Anyway! A guy's gotta take you out to nice places to eat and buy you lots of great stuff and be a gentleman all the time. He can't be like Red and run around half-naked and never take a bath, because that's just gross."

Not that she expected Little D to act like Red or anything—he seemed way too polite for that stuff (barring that one morning she was not thinking about)—but with G-Girl, you had to cover all the bases. Fifteen times.

"So, is Little D following all the rules so far?" she checked in. Small pieces of info and lots of review—that was how you got anything through G-Girl's head.

"Oh, yes," G-Girl replied with a smile. "Dhaos is always very kind, and we go on lots of picnics together."

Well—with G-Girl, that probably counted as going out to eat. "Does he give you stuff?"

"Yes, he gives me lots of hugs." G-Girl's smile went all dreamy again. "And sometimes he gives me kisses, too."

"Agh!" Norma flailed backwards in her chair. "G-Girl, that is way too much information!" Not to mention just plain weird.

And G-Girl was back to bewilderment. "Is it?"

"Yes!" Norma yelped. "You don't just talk about that stuff like you're commenting on the weather!"

"You don't?"

"No!"

"But it's very nice. Why shouldn't I talk about it?" she asked, giving her that big-eyed G-Girl gaze.

"Because. . . ." Quick, Norma, think! "Because . . . keeping it between the two of you makes it even more special, that's why!"

"Oh. Does it?"

"Yes, now moving on . . . !" Although, wait. Norma gave G-Girl a suspicious look. "Hugs and kisses are all Little D does with you, right?"

"Oh, no," G-Girl said calmly.

"What?" Norma shrieked not calmly.

G-Girl gave her a big smile. "Sometimes we go cloud-watching or looking at the flowers or flying together."

Norma clutched at her heart, stared at G-Girl, and tried to remember what breathing was. "Okay . . . let me rephrase that."

Before she could, however, someone pounded on G-Girl's door. "Keep it down in there!"

"Geez, Wally, we're trying to have a heart-to-heart here—don't interrupt!" she told him right back.

The only response she got was a frustrated sound and receding footsteps. Wally could be so touchy sometimes!

She turned back to see G-Girl contemplating empty space, just smiling away, and she sighed. "Yo, G-Girl, I wasn't finished yet!"

G-Girl focused on her. "Finished what?"

"This big important talk! Come on, this is serious—stay with me, here!"

"All right," G-Girl agreed. Norma was getting the distinct impression that absolutely none of her big important talk was sinking in at all.

Okay. What next? . . . Oh. Oh great. How did you even ask a question like the one she was thinking of to someone whose head was made of rainbows and flowers and butterflies and stuff? But out of all her big important talk, this was the biggest and most important part, and so, as her best friend at the top of one seriously huge list, she had to press on.

Right. She could do this. "Little D doesn't touch you anywhere else, does he? Besides when he's hugging you or" —ugh— "kissing you, right?"

G-Girl set a finger aside her cheek and just pondered away. "Well . . . sometimes he touches my hair. Or puts an arm around my shoulders."

All right, so far so good. "Anything else?"

"Hmm. . . . He picks me up to carry me."

Whoa. Little D must've been stronger than he looked, because there was a lot of G-Girl to lift.

Getting the feeling that G-Girl could go on in this vein for ages, Norma tried to hurry her along. "That's great, G-Girl, really great and all, but . . . does he . . . ?" How was she even supposed to ask this? "Touch you anywhere he, uh . . . shouldn't?"

And of course G-Girl had no idea what she was talking about. Of course. "Anywhere he shouldn't?"

"Like, you know. . . . ." Except G-Girl didn't know. Norma tried to give a few suggestions, but there was something about dying of embarrassment that made it kinda hard to speak.

In the end, she only managed to sort of flap her hand weakly at the parts in question on her own body, then fight the urge to bury her face in her hands.

G-Girl's puzzlement only increased. "Why would he touch me there?"

Deciding to take that as a no, Norma very quickly (and slightly too loudly) said, "Great! So that's taken care of! Just remember, G-Girl, if he ever touches you in one of those places, tell him to stop. And if he doesn't, kick him where it hurts! You got that?"

"Oh, my, that wouldn't be very nice," G-Girl said in concern. "You shouldn't hurt your friends."

Norma shook her head. The sooner this conversation was over, the better! "Then come tell me, and I'll kick him where it hurts! Just kidding," she added, lying through her teeth. She'd either kick him or fry him to a crisp. If he even so much as looked at G-Girl the wrong way . . . !

"Hmm. . . . All right," G-Girl said in that vague way of hers that inspired no confidence whatsoever.

"Right. . . . Well, I'm glad that's taken care of then!" Norma bounced to her feet and headed for the door. "Don't forget what I told you, all right?"

And then she braced herself. She knew it was coming, knew it was coming, knew it, knew it. . . .

"All right." Pause. "Now what did you tell me?"

Knew it.

LOLOLOLOL

Poor Norma. LOL.

Also Dhaos would like you to ASKLDJLK STOP WITH THE BED THING LEGENDIA CAST LOLOLOL. XD Tough luck, Dhaos! XDD

Grune answering Norma's questions in all the wrong ways was kinda hilarious. LOL. And poor Norma, trying to indicate what is and is not okay for Dhaos to be doing. XD; Grune.

...And none of it sinking in. LOLOLOL. Of course.

...The image of Dhaos running around half-naked as Norma suggests is kinda funny. LOL. XD

So I guess this is the closest thing to The Talk that anyone will ever give to Grune, LOL. Oh, man. Dhaos, you are causing all the trouble in this house. Bad Dhaos. Make sure you love on Grune tons more to make up for it.

And so a repost and another 50 sentence fic later (YAY FOR IT PROBABLY NOT BEING THE LAST ONE? 8D?) and the conclusion comes! ^0^! Can't wait!

...Poor Norma. LOOOOOOL.

The things she does for her best friend. XD

Sorry, man, not going to happen. You really made an impression that morning! XD

She's got a very...unique take on all this, yes.

What, you expect Grune to remember all this?

If I could, I would totally draw Dhaos dressed as Moses. It would be beautiful.

Yeah, I don't think anyone could manage to give her anything better than this. House 34 is going to be cursing his name. This is an excellent solution.

I will do my best to get it dictated as soon as possible! o7
