Summary: All Starfleet personnel must obtain authorisation from their C.O. as well as clearance from their medical officer before initiating an intimate relationship with an alien species. - VOY 5x17 "The Disease." Enforcing this particular Starfleet regulation is all well and good on a starship, but on an active space station maintained by two separate governments, matters are a little more...challenging.
Author's Notes: The moment I learned of this particular regulation, I knew I had to write a DS9 fic about it. While on one hand it does make sense that people would want to know whether there would be any unpleasant side effects to getting it on with a member of another species, on the other, when it comes to a place like DS9, the regulation strikes me as horrendously impractical. Thus: this fic. I took a few liberties with the relationships in this, for purposes of fun and shipping bias, but the majority of pairings in this are canon compliant.

On a side note, I came this close to titling the fic "Alien Banging Regulations," and it's all Ereka's fault.

There was, in fact, only one new task he did not relish: giving the Starfleet personnel on his station permission to initiate intimate interspecies relationships. )

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Angst
Rating & Warnings: PG
Words: 966 this part, 8547 overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian and Kira return from the Mirrorverse physically in one piece. Their mental and emotional recoveries, however, aren't so straightforward. This part: A much-needed conversation for both.
Author's Notes: The concluding part of my three-part series about Episode 2x23 "Crossover," and the one I most strongly wish had been a part of the show. I particularly would have liked to see a change in the relationship between Julian and Kira in later episodes after sharing such a terrible experience, but sadly it was not to be. Oh well--what can you do?

The next chapter to this fic will be completely unrelated to the preceding parts, so keep an eye out for it...eventually.

'Good morning, Major,' he greets her. 'I was just about to have breakfast—would you care to join me?' )

Summary: Julian learns that pride goeth before a fall and kanar provides an express trip groundwards. Garak learns that, just perhaps, in wine (or kanar) there is the truth.
Author's Notes: There were two things that inspired this. First, this lovely piece of fanart by Kyuketsuki-Vain (their art blog is here--thanks, Lemonsweetie!), and second, a note in the Cardassian sourcebook that stated that kanar is "highly intoxicating." The piece practically wrote itself after those.

Thank you to tinsnip for betaing and to Ereka for the correct Latin conjugation of "kanar." Bless both you wonderful people. <3

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Rating & Warnings: G this part, PG-13 overall?
Words: 268 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Crash-landing on a frozen planet in the middle of a blizzard is bad. But when one of your number is Cardassian...that would be worse.
Author's Notes: More or less, this is me having fun with both the trope and with species differences. I've played up the Cardassian intolerance for cold and the potential reaction to frigid temperatures for the fun of it, although possibly not too much--if room temperature is too cold and a desert planet is "bracing," then I think it's pretty safe to say that this is a species that would not enjoy snow in the slightest.

Summary: Once the question of when, exactly, is Garak's birthday pops into Julian's head, he discovers that it's unsurprisingly difficult to answer.
Author's Notes: Written for tinsnip's birthday. ♥ Figuring out what to give you as a gift was amazingly easy, and consequently, you're one of the only birthdays I've been on time for all year. :D;; Thank you for being an absolutely lovely person and a supreme beta, and I hope you have a phenomenal year. ♥♥♥

It had been Worf's surprise birthday that had put the question in Julian's mind. )

Title: Addendum: 2x23 "Crossover," Part 2
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Angst
Rating & Warnings: PG (references to sexual harrassment, alcohol, drugs)
Words: 3843 this part, approximately 8400 overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian and Kira return from the Mirrorverse physically in one piece. Their mental and emotional recoveries, however, aren't so straightforward. This part: The Intendant in the other universe is a power-craving narcistic despot. The idea that she has the potential to be that woman haunts Kira long after she's returned to DS9.
Author's Notes: This is the second part of three based on Episode 2x23 "Crossover," which focuses on Kira's recovery during approximately the same amount of time as Julian's in the previous chapter. Unfortunately for her, however, she had things rather worse than him.

On a personal note, unfortunately, as my job resumes with the beginning of the school year, the rate at which I'll be posting fics will slow down dramatically. I still have plenty of them lined up, but making time for proofreading will be much more difficult from now on. /sigh

Once again, this segment of the fic brought to you by "Have You Ever" by The Offspring.

Summary: It's for Julian's sake that he and Garak are visiting Risa on a rare vacation--but Garak discovers the place is not without its charms.
Author's Notes: When I wrote this one, it had been after I'd spent a while writing a wide variety of fics about quite a number of characters. Consequently, I'd been feeling the need for some good old-fashioned established relationship fluff. So, well, this came out. Aside from a little thinking about the conditions on various planets, I had no other reason whatsoever for writing it, so--enjoy these two being happy. <3

Summary: At a slightly tipsy gathering of most of the senior staff of DS9 (plus Keiko and Garak), it's decided that they really should play an old Earth game Sisko recently read about.
Author's Notes: I had originally been intending to post something else today, but then I realized at the last minute that I had left out an important scene, and so that's been put on hold until I can, uh, actually write it.

Instead, I decided to post this, which is basically me having fun with historical mix-ups. I really enjoy the idea of people in our future getting things in the present day not quite right, because, you know, if we can mess up stuff that went on much less than a hundred years ago, expecting perfect accuracy three hundred years in the future is a bit much.

Also, I really like the idea of the senior staff (and secondary characters) socialising in large groups. We mostly saw them pair off on their downtime, which was really nice, but the occasional mildly awkward night at Quark's would have been fun to see too.

This is totally silly, so don't think much more than that about it. :Db;

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff/Humour
Rating & Warnings: PG (extremely light references to sex)
Words: This part 1905, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When it comes to dealing with muscle pain, Julian and Garak find that there's really nothing like physical touch. Featuring a trope played straight, subverted, and then resolved in three acts. This chapter: Turnabout is fair play.
Author's Notes: This is the chapter where I took a close look at what I'd written, as well as some common fandom tropes, and decided to turn everything on its head. I also took my experience as the daughter of a medical professional and put it to good use. I was very fortunate to be taught a large number of scientific names for the various parts of my body at a young age, although this probably weirded out some of the people around me. I am pretty sure I was the only kid in my Grade 1 class who would complain about being itchy by her scapula (shoulder blade), for example.

Just as a heads-up, but after this I'll be taking a bit of a posting hiatus to get caught up on all my proofreading. I'm getting seriously bogged down, so this is the last thing you'll see from me for a little while. I may get something posted next week, but if I do, it won't be for this fandom. So yeah, I hope you enjoy this and I'll be back with something else in a couple of weeks. <3

Genre: Pre-slash
Rating & Warnings: G this part (alcohol), PG-13 overall?
Words: 351 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian has never met anyone better at making him forget that the role of a bartender is to listen, not to talk.
Author's Notes: This one is just a little thing based on me once again thinking about the trope, seeing where my mind automatically assumed Julian and Garak would go, and then switching their places. Julian continues to have the weirdest career path, more or less.

'There's nothing sinister about taking an interest in people, is there?' )

Rating & Warnings: PG (references to torture, death, slavery)

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian and Kira return from the Mirrorverse physically in one piece. Their mental and emotional recoveries, however, aren't so straightforward. This part: Julian reconciles the roles the different versions of his friends play and comes to terms with one Mirrorverse death in particular.
Author's Notes: So this got long. Really long, which is why I haven't updated this fic since it was posted. Originally, this was supposed to be a single chapter, but there was just so much awful thrown at Julian and Kira in this episode that I ended up just writing and writing and writing the fallout. So it's now in three parts, one of which is very short, but, well, it made more thematic sense to divide it up that way.

This three-parter brought to you by "Have You Ever" by The Offspring, which turned up on my mp3 player the moment I began my planning.

Summary: Julian Bashir might be a natural at creating intimacy, but Garak has never learned the trick of it.
Author's Notes: This is the first of another fic mini-series that I have planned but, um, haven't quite finished the other parts to yet. Getting up in Garak's mind requires a great deal of thinking, which I've lately been reserving for other fics instead. So, well, if this seems like it's setting up for something--it is. :D;;

Summary: "...[T]he dictator is merely the tip of the whole festering boil of social pus from which dictators emerge; shoot one, and there’ll be another one along in a minute." - Terry Pratchett. Approximately six weeks after The Circle's fall from power, a fragment of the organisation returns to lash out against the only Cardassian living on Deep Space Nine. What they didn't anticipate, however, was being interrupted mid-abduction. This chapter: Kira and O'Brien infiltrate The Circle's stronghold in an attempt to rescue Julian and Garak before Sisko's scheduled meeting with the leader of the cell.
Author's Notes: So this is Act 5, where Star Trek episodes tie everything up into a neat little bundle (provided they aren't multi-parters) --and consequently, that's what happens here. Thank you very much to everyone for reading! It's been a real pleasure, and the feedback I've gotten has been incredibly kind.

You'll probably be happy to know that I haven't been idle during the five weeks I've been posting this. I now have enough other fic lined up to keep posting at this rate for the next three months. I'm going to try to keep things coming at this rate for the next few weeks, although I may take a bit of a hiatus next month to get caught up on all my proofreading (there's a lot of it).

Once again, thank you for coming on this trip with me, and I hope you enjoy the conclusion. <3

Author's Notes: I don't have a whole lot to say about this chapter, actually. Mostly it's a continuation of the things I've played with in earlier chapters--and, of course, me insisting on making things worse.

On a side note, though, anyone who catches the tiny little Vienna Teng reference in this gets a whole batch of cookies.

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: AU/romance/humour
Rating & Warnings: PG (kissing, language, slight internalised homophobia)

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Garak invites Julian to a concert of music by the "dangerous" Arnold Schoenberg. Julian has no idea what to expect, but he's about to find out.
Author's Notes: Another of my installments in the DS9 pizza shop AU, Deep Dish Nine. This one is significantly more serious in tone than my previous outing. I was inspired by the fics and discussions of tinsnip and Lady Yate-Xel into trying my hand at Julian and Garak's relationship in this 'verse, though I more or less went off in my own direction to a degree. So, for example, I ended up loosely basing Cardassian dating on turn-of-the-previous-century courting to give it some of that different flavour that's present in DS9, rather than stealing any thunder.

Jane Bond is the idea of humon, whose take I love rather a lot.

Dedicated to tinsnip, who not only is a fantastic beta (posting this ahead of schedule is my very small way of thanking her for all her help), but a lovely person and friend. The DS9 fandom is lucky as hell to have you. ♥

'Well then,' Garak began in that rehearsed casual tone that signaled many of his suggestions, 'perhaps you'd be willing to accompany me to a concert later this week—once either your assignment is handed in or is a pile of ash on the floor of your apartment.' )

Approximately six weeks after The Circle's fall from power, a fragment of the organisation returns to lash out against the only Cardassian living on Deep Space Nine. What they didn't anticipate, however, was being interrupted mid-abduction. This chapter: Julian solves the mystery of Garak's strange behaviour and begins to realise just how little he can do to help.
Author's Notes: So! As was hinted at in the previous chapter and as will become extremely evident in this one, another thing I wanted to play with was what would happen if Julian learned of Garak's claustrophobia much earlier on, and what the effects would be on their relationship of dealing with it alone. Originally, I had intended to do a whole series of fic branching off from this one--but I've had so many other ideas that I haven't actually written them yet. I do intend to do write at least one or two more, but we'll see when I actually get to them.

A note about the next update: while I very much hope to have it posted on time next Friday, for personal reasons, that may not be possible. Rest assured, though, that it will turn up before the end of next weekend. ♥

Author's Notes: I had a lot of fun with misdirection, assumptions, and the theoretically infinite variety of Gamma Quadrant species in this chapter, as you'll probably be able to tell. One of the other main ideas I decided to play with in "Held" begins to come into play in this chapter, so that's always fun. Next update, I'll elaborate a little more on it, but for now, enjoy the show. ♥

Approximately six weeks after The Circle's fall from power, a fragment of the organisation returns to lash out against the only Cardassian living on Deep Space Nine. What the terrorists didn't anticipate, however, was being interrupted mid-abduction.
Author's Notes: This fic is what I've mentally termed my Bajoran baby. I've been working on it for approximately half a year now--so actually, I suppose it counts as a long Bajoran pregnancy.

I had several goals in writing this fic, some of which won't become clear until later on. The primary one was to challenge myself to write an episode of DS9, using its format, plot structure, and some of its tropes. (Some of said tropes, however, I played around with a little.) It was a fun exercise that took me well outside my usual style, and someday, I may very well try it again.

Another reason for writing this was to tie up a few loose ends from the three-part Season 2 opening: "The Homecoming," "The Circle," and "The Siege." There were several things about those episodes that make sense from a series production point of view, such as why The Circle was never heard from again even if it's very difficult to completely wipe out a terrorist cell all in one go--especially one with that level of support. And, well, why they attacked Quark as opposed to Garak, since, you know, budgets and hiring actors, and so forth. But these weren't very satisfying to me from a storytelling point of view, and so I decided to play around with the situation.

A huge thank you goes to tinsnip, who gave me an extremely thorough beta involving just about everything and who suggested the title for the story (you don't want to know what it would have been called if I were left my own devices), and to Yosie, who's been reading my writing for thirteen years now (!) and knows where I make my mistakes. This is a hell of a lot better story thanks to them. <3

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy my Bajoran baby, haha.

Author's Notes: Long story short, this is me subverting my own fanfic. This was originally another one of my early attempts to pin down the characters of Garak and Bashir. I considered reworking it after reading some discussion online about problematic DS9 tropes and doing some thinking of my own, but then I decided to pull it apart instead.

This chapter features the fic as-is, trope implications and all; the next two will involve me playing around with things. That's not to say, of course, that I didn't have a lot of wicked fun with writing this, so I hope everyone enjoys this chapter as much as I did. :Db

Also, I had intended the use of "Jules" as more of a concept than anything else--the ages of angels and demons are rather hard to pin down--but it seems to have influenced me subconsciously, so this is more of a friendshippy fic than a shippy one, really. Oh well.
