Title: The Wish of a Weaver
Fandoms:
luceti, Tales of Legendia, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Tales of Phantasia, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Genre: Romance
Rating: G
Words: 423
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the above fandoms.
Summary: Grune makes two wishes on Tanabata: One large and one small.
Author's Notes: This is a repost from all the way back in July; I wrote it shortly after Tanabata, during Dhaos' month-long mallynap. Except for a few changes to reflect how threads turned out, all I did was clean it up to post. I'm on the editing stage for my next new fic, but it'll be a while before it turns up in that it got fairly complex. So I guess this will have to do in the meantime. :|b
Grune had spent most of the evening of Tanabata with her friends—she had even made a new one. Her name was Haruhi, and she had given her a special dress called a “yukata.” It was very pretty and felt nice on her skin; she thought she might keep wearing it for the rest of the summer.
Right now, she was alone, sitting off to one side and watching everyone go by. They were all talking and laughing and having fun together; it made a very soothing background. Soon, she heard, the fireworks would be starting. She would need to go find Moses so he wouldn't miss them—she knew he would love to watch all the pretty lights in the sky.
But not right away. Now that she had a little time to think, her mind was turning back to one friend who wasn't there with her. It would have been so much fun if Dhaos were here. She and Haruhi could have found him a very nice yukata, and she knew he would have loved to share dango with Giles and listen to his story. And she could have introduced him to Jay and they could all have played a game together. It would have been the perfect night to help Dhaos make more friends so he wouldn't have to be lonely, but. . . .
Her thoughts wandered away for a while. When they came back, she got to her feet and moved over to the tree where she had tied her wishes.
It had taken her a long time to think of good ones. She knew it was very important to get them exactly right. She had almost wished her favourite one—May the world be at peace—but Luceti was a very peaceful place right now. She had thought it better to use her wishes for something different. Giles had suggested that she wish for something a little smaller, but in the end, she had decided on another big one.
She touched a fingertip to the already dry ink on her bamboo shoot, sending the wish twirling. May everyone in Luceti be happy.
Gradually, she became aware of the people around her calling to one another about the fireworks. If they were starting soon, then she should go find her friends so they could all watch them together.
As she joined the moving crowd, just a corner of her mind stayed behind on the bamboo shoots and the second, small wish she had made.
May Dhaos come home safe and sound.
