At the very least, there are elements of the vampirism squick that everyone in Buffyverse shares - the fear of losing someone you love while something else walks around using their memories and wearing their face - even if, in this case, it's a relatively benign something.
I know you don't think you did as well as you wanted to on this, but...well, that's a common problem for the one behind the curtain in any hobby. From this side? ♥ I loved it. My stomach seriously twisted, getting a proper look inside Awakened!Grune's head, and that's good! It's not often nowadays that any piece of writing can get that kind of reaction out of me. It was a tragic little snapshot, and sometimes that's all that's needed.
