...Which is a lousy name, but I'm currently feeling uninspired.
Basically, this verse came about from me thinking about the things I wish Graces had included more of. Specifically:
- More childhood arc
- More gay
- More politics
...So I've created a verse where I can get all three. \o/
This verse veers off from canon in a few places, the most significant being that Richard gets to spend nearly an entire year in Lhant before the assassination attempt on his father that forces him to return to Barona. During that year, he gets to essentially be a normal kid and to become extremely close to the Lhant gang. He also starts dating Asbel and they do all kinds of adorable things like hold hands and cloudwatch together on Lhant Hill and stuff.
When the whole mess goes down with Sophie "dying" and Lambda and stuff, Asbel still runs away to the Knight Academy, but he stays in touch with his mother and Cheria (he doesn't know how to send letters to Hubert), and he still visits Richard. However, as he gets more and more absorbed in learning to become a knight, gradually contact with everyone ceases. He and Richard drift apart, and eventually, Richard moves on. (Asbel is too dense to figure out dating and falls in love with training instead.) It's at this time that Cheria discovers her previously unsuspected bisexuality, and Hubert...is Hubert.
The adult arc begins as it does in canon, though when Richard and Asbel run into each other again, after a bit of a bumpy start, they pick up their relationship from where they left off. ...At least until Lambda takes over, and then no. (Richard, incidentally, had a much easier time of things resisting Lambda due to his friendships having a much more solid foundation. Unfortunately, when he's "killed," all bets are off and things go more or less as they did in canon.)
At the end of the game, Asbel initially starts off as the Lord of Lhant, but soon discovers that being charismatic and dedicated is not enough. At the same time, he receive an invitation from Richard to come replace Malik at the Knight Academy and help build up their ranks and reputation again. Asbel persuades Hubert--who is much better suited to the job--to take over as Lord of Lhant and he and Sophie head to Barona. There, they discover that Richard is having real trouble earning back the trust of his people and is having an extremely difficult time coping with everything he did while possessed by Lambda--which is coming out in him not eating or sleeping and generally being really terrible to himself.
Thus Asbel becomes not only the head of the Knight Academy, but Richard's staunchest supporter (and his lover) and uses his popularity to convince the people of Windor that no, Richard is not going to go all evil and run off on them again--honest.
...And that, more or less, sums up Childhoodverse. :Db
