DS9 - Star Trek Friendshipfest 2015

Title: Learning, Relearning
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G (emetophobia, death mention)
Words: 1567
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Why Kira had invited the newly joined Ezri Dax to lunch so soon after Jadzia's death is beyond her.
Author's Notes: Here it is--my entry for Star Trek Friendshipfest 2015! I was assigned persiflet, who likes explorations of cultural differences. I tried to oblige, but this thing kind of wanted to go in its own direction. Whoops.

'Instead, she very much regrets having invited Ezri Dax to lunch in the replimat, the way she and Jadzia always . . . used to.' )

DS9 - Happy Femslash February!

Title: All Right
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, AU
Rating & Warnings: PG (language, reference to canonical character death)
Words: 899
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: The first Lovers' Day since Jadzia's death, Kira has to make a decision.
Author's Notes: Happy Femslash February! I had been expecting to celebrate the month with my current favourite femslash couple, Kira/Jadzia, but then this popped into my head and demanded to be written. I didn't think I shipped Kira/Ezri, but after writing this I sure do!

Slightly AU, set in a 'verse where reassociation is not a taboo among the Trill. (Although lbr, given Ezri was also a Starfleet science officer on exactly the same station and with exactly the same friends as her previous host, I don't think the writers were too concerned about that by Season 7.)

And so Kira had gone to the holosuites and had beaten the shit out of as many computer-generated images as she could until she had been too exhausted to grieve. )

DS9 - Part two arrives!

Title: Connections
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Romance
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 4622 this part; 8707 overall.
Disclaimer: I don't own the above media.
Summary: To repair the damage done by its interference with its colonists in the Demilitarised Zone, the Cardassian government has proposed a marriage-enjoinment between one of its citizens and one of the Federation's to symbolise the renewed relations between the two governments. Julian had gladly agreed to marry Garak, Central Command's "volunteer," but now he's learning all over again that nothing to do with Cardassians in general and Garak in particular is as simple as it appears on the surface. This chapter: The wedding-enjoinment ceremony.
Author's Notes: Holy shit, y'all. I had not been expecting this level of response. I'm very glad to see that this has been well received, and I can only hope the concluding chapter is a satisfying one.

Anyone who's curious about the song Garak sings in this, click here once you've finished the chapter.

Thanks for reading!

Whoever had come up with the tradition of not seeing your partner before the wedding, Julian decided, had been a sadist. )

DS9 - Because what I really need is to start another series, right?

Title: Connections

Rating & Warnings: PG (reference to torture)
Words: 4085 this part; 8707 overall.

Summary: To repair the damage done by its interference in the Demilitarised Zone, the Cardassian government has proposed a marriage-enjoinment between one of its citizens and one of the Federation's to symbolise the renewed relations between the two governments. Julian had gladly agreed to marry Garak, Central Command's "volunteer," but now he's learning all over again that nothing involving Cardassians in general and Garak in particular is as simple as it appears on the surface.
Author's Notes: The sequel to Chapter 12 of my fic involving the 30=Day Cheesy Tropes challenge. The trope was, unsurprisingly, "arranged marriage." I had been trying to keep thing short, but by the time I finished writing that chapter, I had way more ideas in my head that were demanding I write them. Eventually, I gave in and got down some of them, and this is the result.

Who knew this trope could be so much fun?

'But the fact of the matter is, I can't make someone else do this. At the very least, I know Garak, and I know that, whatever he might have done, it's in the past. He's a different man now, I'm sure of it.' )

Title: Christmas Fashions
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff
Rating & Warnings: G (alcohol mention)
Words: 180
Disclaimer: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Summary: Dax tries to spread some Christmas cheer. Kira doesn't go for it.
Author's Notes: This is one of the fics I wrote for the DS9 Card Exchange this year! chiefmilesobrien gave me permission to post what I sent her, so here it is! The picture at the end is the front of the card I made. If I'd had more time, I would have put more detail into it, but yeah.

DS9 - Oh god I write terrible things.

Title: Lines
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Humour
Rating & Warnings: PG (innuendo)
Words: 3784
Disclaimer: I don't own the above media.
Summary: There's been a buildup of Dominion forces near the wormhole--or so Dukat says. He proposes a joint Cardassian-Federation mission to investigate, with himself and Sisko as their governments' representatives.
Author's Notes: I had so much fun with being as terrible as possible in this one. Dukat may be a horrible person, but damn if he isn't a blast to write sometimes.

Thank you very much to tinsnip, who reblogged this travel calculator at exactly the right time for me not to make embarrassing timing mistakes with this fic. :D;;

'It's from Gul Dukat,' Kira answered in that tone of revulsion she reserved exclusively for their least favourite Cardassian. )

DS9 - A return from (impromptu) hiatus!

Title: 30-Day Cheesy Tropes Challenge - 15. Office Romance AU
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Pre-slash/AU
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: This part 1084, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Ever since transferring to this particular building of Deep Space Co., Julian has had an unusual problem: he's getting along too well with one coworker in particular. Now he and Elim are facing the (hopefully metaphorical) firing squad.
Author's Notes: Er...hi. :D;; I didn't mean to go on hiatus, but it's amazing what moving 1800 km, spending two weeks in another country, and apartment hunting will do to your free time. I don't think I'm going to be right up to my usual schedule for a while yet, but I do hope to post more often from now on.

Another contributing factor to the space between updates would be that this was yet another trope that I needed to rewrite. I just wasn't happy with how it had turned out and the decisions I had made about the AU, so there was a fair bit of reworking going on. It's still not my favourite, but I like it a lot more than I did when I first started editing! :D;

He'd never thought, before meeting Elim, that getting along well with someone could be a problem. )

DS9 - More time in the sun for one of my favourite minor characters

Title: Addendum - 3x05 "Second Skin"
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 1411 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: The truest pleasure in Tekeny Ghemor's life is the regular correspondence he shares with his daughter, Kira Nerys.
Author's Notes: Ghemor is one of my absolute favourite minor characters in any Star Trek series, and I simply adore his relationship with Kira. But I couldn't believe that, when he returned in "Ties of Blood and Water," that they'd had no contact whatsoever in two years! So, rather than them spying on each other for news, I decided to write this.

'Hello, Tekeny,' she greets him. He still can't convince her to call him 'Father.' Maybe someday. )

DS9 - Being silly again

Title: Battle Hymns of the Federation
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Humour
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 688
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: O'Brien wonders why only the Klingons get to sing while going forth into battle. Sisko offers a suggestion as to what Federation members could sing themselves.
Author's Notes: In general, Klingons and I don't mix too well. However, one thing I do adore is the importance of song in Klingon life. (This has nothing whatsoever to do with me being a music teacher.)

This also came from the never-not-hilarious tendency for history to change the context of media--and I'm not saying anything else, because it'll give the joke away.

'Would you prefer we skip the safety checks and start straight in on the opera?' )

DS9 - The cheesy tropes continue!

Title: 30-Day Cheesy Tropes Challenge - 12. Arranged Marriage AU
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Pre-slash
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: This part 2415, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: After the business with the Maquis, Cardassia's Central Command suggests a grand gesture to demonstrate the renewed commitment to peace between the governments of the Federation and the Union. They also know exactly who will be making that gesture.
Author's Notes: So from about this point on, things started getting away from me. :D;; My fics started getting longer and longer, and a few of them spawned their own AUs for me to follow up on later.

This would be one of them. Normally, "arranged marriage" is a trope I'm rather tired of--before learning how to find good romance novels as a teenager, I read anything I could get my hands on and that rather burned me out. But this, however, is another of my very favourite pieces in the entire series. I've even written a follow-up, with one more planned (although when I'll get to it is anyone's guess). So, uh, there you go.

'I can't see many people lining up to marry a stranger!' )

DS9 - It's the Tulaberries, featuring good ol' Ben Sisko!

Title: It's a Grudge Match, Ben Sisko!
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 943
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When Dukat's baseball team beats Ben Sisko's at first recess, there's no way he's going to let it happen at lunch. There's just one problem....
Author's Notes: My brother Yosie and I created this 'verse during about 150 km of a road trip we took together last summer. We've had a lot of fun planning it, but this is the first thing I've actually written for it. Hopefully when we get a little more time, we'll be able to have other things to share, too.

Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong. This chapter: Resolution.
Author's Notes: And here we are at the end! Thank you to everyone for reading along with me--this is one of the projects I'm most proud of, so I'm glad I was able to share it with you. Thank you again, too, to my wonderful betas, tinsnip and Yosie! You two are the best. <3

DS9 - The Spinning Wheel [1/5]

Title: Like I Have Nothing To Hide
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Action
Rating & Warnings: PG-13 (slight dubcon, hairpulling)
Betas: tinsnip and Yosie
Words: This part 2745, appr. 15k overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong.
Author's Notes: This fic comes from two places. First, I had been a fan of Keiko in TNG, and I had been glad when I started watching DS9 to find that she had made the switch between series with me. However, while she did get some very good writing in some episodes, a lot of the time I got the sense that the writers didn't quite know what to do with her. It frustrated me that not only did she occasionally get stuck in the "nagging wife" role in an attempt at humour, but she actually got written out of the show entirely for over a season so that Miles and Julian could have manly bonding time.

So, I wanted to write something that would let Keiko be the badass I know she is in a realistic way for her skill set. And I hope that here I've achieved it.

The second place, I'll talk about more in later chapters. I'd hate to spoil all of you for my own fic, after all!

Though I didn't realise it until I was writing the second-last scene, there's a song that fits this fic extremely well, and is responsible for its title: "The Spinning Wheel" by Michiru, from the album "World's End Village." You can listen to it here and, if you like it, you can buy the track here. There are no lyrics available on the internet--believe me, I've looked. Instead, the quotes have been transcribed by myself, Yosie, and my friend Angie, who introduced me to the song in the first place. Thank you very much!

And thank you to tinsnip and Yosie for kindly taking the time to beta this for me, and for providing lots of encouragement. You two are the best. <3

And now, onto the fic!

'Welcome home, Miles,' she said and kissed him one more time, for the simple pleasure of being able to. )

DS9 - For DS9 Tumblr Zine, Week 1!

Title: Life Lessons at Three Hundred
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 497
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When Kira and Dax are trapped overnight in a cave due to an ion storm, Kira is a bit more matter-of-fact about certain parts than Dax had been expecting.
Author's Notes: For DS9 Tumblr Zine's first week! The prompt was "Huddling For Warmth," and since I already did a version with Julian and Garak and it's still Femslash February, it didn't take me too long to figure out what I was going to do.

We'll see how many of these prompts I'm actually going to be able to fill--probably I'm going to need to skip the longer ones. But I hope to be able to hit as many as I can! And of course I'll archive them here as I fill them. So, happy reading!

DS9 - Happy Valentine's Day (and Femslash February)!

Title: Anywhere in the Galaxy
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff
Rating & Warnings: PG (innuendo, alcohol)
Words: 4485
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Kira has never been a fan of holosuites; Dax thinks it's simply a matter of finding the right program. But putting together something fun for both of them is more of a challenge than even Dax is used taking on.
Author's Notes: So it's February. And I had written femslash a month or so ago. Given that it's Femslash February, I figured now might not be a bad time to post it!

This is a partner piece of sorts to "Clearing Skies." I wrote it second, but it takes place first. Go figure. I have at least one other fic related to this that I want to write, but who knows when I'll actually get to it. :D;;

DS9 - Holosuite adventures and relationship repair [1/3]

Title: Clearing Skies
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Romance
Rating & Warnings: PG (sexual references, alcohol)
Beta: tinsnip
Words: This part 2400, 6233 overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Over the past weeks, without realising it, Julian had been taking Garak's company for granted. But no longer: he's going to make certain to properly include Garak in his life from now on, and the first way he intends to do so is--to invite him along to one of his holosuite sessions with Chief O'Brien.
Author's Notes: This fic comes from two sources: an incredibly awesome commission I ordered from petaq (art journal at dziwaczka), and from reading A Stitch in Time by Andrew Robinson, specifically the parts where Garak gets jealous of Julian and Miles' holosuite sessions. With both of those things in mind, I ended up writing this last May, although I haven't had time to clean up and post it until now. I had a lot of fun writing this and learned quite a bit about the Battle of Britain into the bargain, so I hope everyone enjoys the piece!

Thank you to tinsnip for checking this over to make sure relationship things unrolled realistically. I owe you one. <3

Title: The Summer Sun in Winter
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff/AU
Rating & Warnings: PG
Words: This part 969, 15 114 overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: Julian and Garak's time together comes to an end, but their gifts to each other aren't quite complete yet.
Author's Notes: And here we are, at the end of the month and at the end of these two's time together. Thank you very much to everyone who's read along--it's been lovely sharing the holiday with you this year.

As a heads up, since I spent pretty much all my time on this for the last couple of months, there'll be a bit of a gap before I'm able to post my next fic. I have lots of stuff waiting in the wings that needs only to be dictated and polished, but finding time to do as much is easier said than done.

Until then, may 2014 be the best year ever for everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all with a fresh batch of fics in the new year. <3

Genre: Fluff/AU
Rating & Warnings: PG (references to alcohol)

Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: Jadzia's Christmas party.
Author's Notes: And in this chapter I continue to enjoy including cameos from the other characters, because DS9 has such a great cast. A tip of the hat goes to tinsnip's delightful "Dancing in a Dance Club" for a certain part of this, which should be immediately obvious upon reading. ♥

He began reevaluating said decision when, out of the scattered mass of belongings that had once somehow fit into a single large suitcase, Julian produced a garish Santa hat. )

DD9 - For your December reading pleasure? [1/7]

Title: The Summer Sun in Winter
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Fluff/AU
Rating & Warnings: PG (references to alcohol, sex)
Words: This part 2686, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian has spent the last six months working as a doctor at a hospital in Andor. Now he's home for the holidays, to the joy of all of his friends--but especially Garak. This chapter: adventures with airports.
Author's Notes: So this accidentally turned into the equivalent of a Nano project for me. And, like a Nano project, this isn't nearly as polished as I'd really like it to be. However, Christmas doesn't wait for perfectionists. Alas.

This is pure, unadulterated slice-of-life fluff from start to finish, by the way. Anybody looking for action or angst or complexity should probably look elsewhere. Anyone who wants to feel warm and cosy, though, make yourself at home!

I borrowed a little bit more from tinsnip and Lady Yate-xel's discussions than usual, so I suppose you could say this AU is ever-so-slightly AU--at least where my version of it is concerned, anyway.

On a serious note, this fic is dedicated to anyone for whom Christmas is not a time of good cheer. I wrote this as a way of showing what I think Christmas should be, not necessarily what it is. If you're going to have a difficult holiday season, then I hope reading about Julian and Elim having a good one will be able to give you something of an escape, even for a little while.

That's all. I hope everyone enjoys as I post this over the next few weeks. ♥

After less than ten minutes on the road, he'd shut off the broadcast. He'd also seriously reevaluated Julian's taste in friends. )

DS9 - Vast amounts of silliness

Title: By the Book
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Genre: Humour
Rating & Warnings: PG (sexual references--many, many sexual references)
Words: 4712
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Summary: All Starfleet personnel must obtain authorisation from their C.O. as well as clearance from their medical officer before initiating an intimate relationship with an alien species. - VOY 5x17 "The Disease." Enforcing this particular Starfleet regulation is all well and good on a starship, but on an active space station maintained by two separate governments, matters are a little more...challenging.
Author's Notes: The moment I learned of this particular regulation, I knew I had to write a DS9 fic about it. While on one hand it does make sense that people would want to know whether there would be any unpleasant side effects to getting it on with a member of another species, on the other, when it comes to a place like DS9, the regulation strikes me as horrendously impractical. Thus: this fic. I took a few liberties with the relationships in this, for purposes of fun and shipping bias, but the majority of pairings in this are canon compliant.

On a side note, I came this close to titling the fic "Alien Banging Regulations," and it's all Ereka's fault.

There was, in fact, only one new task he did not relish: giving the Starfleet personnel on his station permission to initiate intimate interspecies relationships. )
