Title: Suspension
Fandom: Tales of Legendia, Tales of Phantasia
Genre: Romance, gen
Rating & Warnings: PG-13, possessiveness
Words: 1686
Disclaimer: I don't own the above fandoms.
Summary: Grune and Dhaos' plans to spend an afternoon dallying are interrupted by a visitor to the mana tree's glade. One of them take it much better than the other.
Author's Notes: I've been going through my old writing notebooks lately, and I have to say, I'm finding some pretty enjoyable stuff. This would be one such fic.

Tauriel sighs, but she is smiling. So it has happened again. )

Author's Notes: My first (finished) [community profile] castle_perrault fic! I read most of a sad thread between an AU version of Sans and Papyrus and became very sad, and wrote this to cheer myself up. :D;; Notes on the Sindarin that Sans-Serif and Tauriel speak at the end.

[Foyle's War] Dipping a toe or two in....

Title: Home and Abroad
Fandom: Foyle's War
Genre: Gen/Romance
Rating & Warnings: PG (ableism, homophobia, alcohol)
Words: 1056
Disclaimer: I don't own Foyle's War.
Summary: Fifty moments in the lives of the Foyle Family.
Author's Notes: I've been rewatching Foyle's War lately, and I've gotten that old familiar writing itch. So, to practice before I embark on a larger-scale project, I wrote these instead. I'm defining the Foyle Family as Foyle (naturally), Sam, Paul, Andrew, and Brookie. There's also a definite bent toward Sam/Paul, as it's become one of my ships for the series and I'm planning on writing more of it later. So yup!

Title: Learning, Relearning
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G (emetophobia, death mention)
Words: 1567
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Why Kira had invited the newly joined Ezri Dax to lunch so soon after Jadzia's death is beyond her.
Author's Notes: Here it is--my entry for Star Trek Friendshipfest 2015! I was assigned persiflet, who likes explorations of cultural differences. I tried to oblige, but this thing kind of wanted to go in its own direction. Whoops.

'Instead, she very much regrets having invited Ezri Dax to lunch in the replimat, the way she and Jadzia always . . . used to.' )

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: PG (reference to abuse)
Words: This part 3366, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When "Torin" Garak's coworker asks him to get rid of the Human boy asking for a job at their Cardassian restaurant, Garak decides to do the manager's job for her and hire "Julian Banting" instead.
Author's Notes: ngl this was one of my absolute favourite fics to write out of the entire series, and like the Arranged Marriage one, I have a few more ideas for it kicking around the back of my head. Whether I'll get around to them remains to be seen, but I hope I'll have the time eventually.

Title: Smiles and Botany
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen/Humour
Rating & Warnings: PG (mild language, mild sexism)
Words: 3073
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Keiko has many beautiful smiles. The one she wears when she suggests that they should invite Julian and his new partner Garak over for a dinner party is not remotely one of Miles' favourites.
Author's Notes: I've been meaning to get around to posting this one for, um, over a year now. Whoops.

I don't think I've ever written anything from Miles' perspective before, actually! It was a bit of a challenge, in that I didn't want to write some of his more 90s TV husband traits but I also wanted to stay true to his character. Balancing his actual reasonable dislike of Garak with him also being grumpy was interesting as well.

I'm not sure if I'll be writing anything else from his point of view any time soon, but it was a good exercise in the meantime. And it was an excuse to write more about Keiko, as well as one of my OTPs, and I never say no to that!

Also: I've included a bonus wry joke for anyone who's read A Stitch In Time. Five points if you catch it. <3

Title: Accustoming
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: PG (reference to sexual harassment)
Words: 1064
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Nog has a lot to get used to at Starfleet Academy--starting with his roommate.
Author's Notes: In response to cosmictuesdays' prompt:

Prompt four: Nog at Starfleet Academy. Does he need special accommodations? How does he deal with the culture shift? Does he find the climate of San Francisco pleasant or unreasonable?

I would absolutely love to have made this longer, but at the time of its writing, my offline life hadn't been conducive to writing, so, well, that's all I've got.

I went with the "sir as default" thing that Star Trek did when it was airing, but yeah. Someday there's going to be a fic about this.

DS9 - Short Cheesy Tropes

Title: 30-Day Cheesy Tropes Challenge - 16. Seven Minutes in Heaven
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: This part 232, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian knows that someone will rescue them from this supply closet soon. Garak knows that someone will rescue them from this supply closet soon. It's just Garak's claustrophobia that hasn't got the message.
Author's Notes: Another short one, but honestly, with one half of this couple excruciatingly claustrophobic, it would have taken some serious gymnastics to make this one any longer. Whoops.

Before we get going, I want to thank everyone who's commented to my fics over the past few months. My brain weather has been...less than ideal lately, so I haven't been able to respond to comments, but I hope you all know how much I treasure every one. When things are going a bit better inside my head, I hope to give all of you the thoughtful responses you deserve. That just may not be for a while. But until then--thank you. <3

Title: Unity in Triumph

Words: 606
Disclaimer: I don't own the above media.
Summary: After yet another victory for the Klingon Empire, Martok joins his soldiers in celebrating at Quark’s. However, there is one Klingon who sits alone.
Author's Notes: Oh boy, oh boy, was this ever hard. While I can certainly respect the amount of time and thought both the makers of Star Trek and Klingon fans have put into Klingon culture…it is really, really not my thing. About the only place where Klingons and I agree is how awesome singing is. Other than that, well—it’s Cardassians and Vulcans for me. So when I saw this week’s challenge, I knew what I had to do.

I still can’t believe I wrote this.

DS9 - More time in the sun for one of my favourite minor characters

Title: Addendum - 3x05 "Second Skin"
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 1411 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: The truest pleasure in Tekeny Ghemor's life is the regular correspondence he shares with his daughter, Kira Nerys.
Author's Notes: Ghemor is one of my absolute favourite minor characters in any Star Trek series, and I simply adore his relationship with Kira. But I couldn't believe that, when he returned in "Ties of Blood and Water," that they'd had no contact whatsoever in two years! So, rather than them spying on each other for news, I decided to write this.

'Hello, Tekeny,' she greets him. He still can't convince her to call him 'Father.' Maybe someday. )

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: PG (references to slavery, death)
Words: 824
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Ziyal has many reasons to stay on DS9.
Author's Notes: This is a rewrite of the scene where Dukat and Ziyal part. Originally, the only reason given for Ziyal wanting to stay on DS9 was that she was waiting for Garak. That really didn't jive with me, though (and it was pretty damn sexist): surely Ziyal would have all kinds of reasons behind her decision. And so this is what came out of that thought.

Tora Ziyal had done many difficult things in the course of her life. )

Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 942
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When a telepathic virus strikes DS9 in Julian's first week on the station, he couldn't be more excited--specially when he begins receiving the speech of one of the station's most notorious residents.
Author's Notes: This is another one I had to rewrite because I was dissatisfied with the way I had initially handled the trope. (Tbh it's another trope that, uh, pretty much does nothing for me.) The second attempt preceded to turn into one of my favourite fics of the challenge. Season 1 Julian, you are an adorkable mess.

DS9 - For DS9 Tumblr Zine, Week 5!

Title: Companionship and Klingon Cuisine
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: PG (alcohol)
Words: 926
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: A look in on the weekly night out of the dabo spinners of DS9.
Author's Notes: My submission to DS9 Tumblr Zine for the prompt "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"!

It didn't take me as long as I expected to think of what I wanted to do for this week's prompt. For all DS9 has so many amazing secondary characters, this popped into my head right away, possibly because I've been writing about Leeta a fair bit lately. I thought it would be nice to give the dabo spinners (because I absolutely refuse to call them "dabo girls") a chance to interact with each other and be more than eye candy. I figure they would get along pretty great, because there's nothing like a common foe *coughQuarkcough* to bring people together.

Not many businesses saw parties of eight turn up every week. )

Title: It's a Grudge Match, Ben Sisko!
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 943
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: When Dukat's baseball team beats Ben Sisko's at first recess, there's no way he's going to let it happen at lunch. There's just one problem....
Author's Notes: My brother Yosie and I created this 'verse during about 150 km of a road trip we took together last summer. We've had a lot of fun planning it, but this is the first thing I've actually written for it. Hopefully when we get a little more time, we'll be able to have other things to share, too.

Title: Rally
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 705
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Senator Cretak visits Deep Space Nine to participate in trade negotiations, a situation that's become old hat for Colonel Kira.
Author's Notes: This week's submission for DS9 Tumblr Zine, for the prompt "Fix It"! This prompt was something of a challenge for me, in that while I devoutly love DS9, there are so many places where they just...dropped the ball. Or didn't consider the implications of some of their decisions.

One of the things that frustrated me deeply about Season 7 was that the writers created a terrific character in Senator Cretak, who wasn't your stereotypical Romulan and who had fantastic chemistry with Kira--and then they more or less fridged her in a failed attempt to dirty up Julian in "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges." It really grinds my gears.

I ended up not taking advantage of the extra time as I had originally been planning, simply because I knew this would either be 700 words or 7000, and sadly I can't write that fast. I have plans to expand this at a later date, but we'll see how late that later date actually ends up being.

Cretak inclined her head as though they had happened to run into each other in a Bajoran tea shop and weren't, in fact, about to participate in fearsome trade negotiations along with First Minister Shakaar. )

Words: 665

Summary: Leeta joins Rom, Nog, and the Siskos for supper for the first time.
Author's Notes: This week's submission for DS9 Tumblr Zine, for the prompt "Cultural Exchange"! Once again, I had already done a piece about Julian and Garak involving this prompt (creatively titled "Cultural Exchange"), so I thought I would write something a little different and outside my usual scope instead. And I'm definitely going to have to do this again--I had a blast!

DS9 - History is written by the victors.

Title: Misremembering the Alamo
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: PG (references to slavery, racism, colonialism)
Words: 658
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Julian and Miles generally don't know much about the history behind their holosuite programs, beyond the information provided by the creators. Captain Sisko, however, does.
Author's Notes: Being Canadian, I'm in something of a different position than American viewers of the American-produced DS9. Normally, that doesn't affect my viewing in the slightest, but every once in a while, having the perspective of an outsider results in some...dissonance.

Miles and Julian's Season 6 and 7 holosuite program is the example that stands out the most to me. I learned about American history outside the American school system, and so my reaction to hearing about their newest program was perhaps--not what the writers were intending. And that's what this fic is about.

'The Alamo?' Sisko repeated. )

Title: Cultural Exchange
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Genre: Romance/Gen
Rating & Warnings: G
Words: 1337
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space 9.
Summary: The closer Julian and Garak become, the less distinct the borders of their respective cultures grow.
Author's Notes: This is an early piece I wrote, both as a way of laying out for myself how a cultural exchange between Julian and Garak might go, and as a challenge, to see if I could write an interesting fic without dialogue. Whether I've succeeded remains to be seen.

Someday, I may do a follow-up piece with these two involving the less obvious cultural details and how they mesh (or don't), but I have a lot of writing projects I intend to do first, so I'd advise against holding your breath.

DS9 - I am pretty sure this is not what was intended with this prompt.

Title: 30-Day Cheesy Tropes Challenge - 07. Stuck Someplace Together in Winter
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: Gen
Rating & Warnings: G this part, PG-13 overall?
Words: 268 this part, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Summary: Crash-landing on a frozen planet in the middle of a blizzard is bad. But when one of your number is Cardassian...that would be worse.
Author's Notes: More or less, this is me having fun with both the trope and with species differences. I've played up the Cardassian intolerance for cold and the potential reaction to frigid temperatures for the fun of it, although possibly not too much--if room temperature is too cold and a desert planet is "bracing," then I think it's pretty safe to say that this is a species that would not enjoy snow in the slightest.

Julian fired his phaser. )
