Summary: The sweet and simple friendship of Link and Grune in fifty moments.
Author's Notes: Strangely enough, for someone who's been playing games in the Zelda series for over a decade now, these were the hardest set for me yet. I'm not quite sure why, but yeah. So, well, I'm not as happy with them as I could be, but oh well. Hopefully they're decent enough.
Oh yeah, also, I borrowed a couple of times from Majora's Mask, which I know isn't strictly Link's canon, but anything can happen in Luceti, right?
01. Ring
Grune applauds every shot Link makes with his bow in the Battle Dome—even the one that went wide when he was startled at the last minute by someone walking in.
02. Hero
He hates the drafts, but when his choice is to fight or leave Grune to fend for herself, it's really no choice at all.
03. Memory
Link soon learns that it's best to meet Grune at her house, not the other way around.
04. Box
He gets a crick in his neck talking to Grune after his kidnapping leaves him even shorter than before, but he'll take that over breaking out the stool.
05. Run
The colours of his paint blob together, turning his picture of Epona into an indistinguishable mess, but at least Grune likes it.
06. Hurricane
"How about we stay inside today and have our picnic later?" Link suggests to Grune, nervously watching a full tree branch blow past the window.
07. Wings
His wings feel kind of silly, but they look good on Grune, he thinks.
08. Cold
Link nearly has a heart attack when he spots Grune wandering about with no winter clothes in the middle of a snowstorm, and he runs outside full-tilt to drag her into his house.
09. Red
Link grins and reaches out to pick a brightly colored leaf from Grune's hair, proof of a day well spent.
10. Drink
Giles teaches Grune the joys of tea, and they both train Link; he wonders who his victim should be.
11. Midnight
It seems no matter when he wakes up from his nightmares, Grune will be on the journals and ready to soothe him back to sleep with her gentle voice.
12. Temptation
"Would you like another cookie?" she asks, and the answer is never "no."
13. View
One night, he finds her on top of the library; he has to admit, the view of the stars up there is pretty amazing.
14. Music
As inattentive as Grune can be, she never wanders off when he's playing his ocarina for her.
15. Silk
He has no idea why she thought it'd be a good idea, but they were a gift from Grune, and so he'll endure his housemates' teasing and wear those green silk pajamas.
16. Cover
As long as he can protect Grune, it doesn't matter if he gets hurt in the process.
17. Promise
"We'll always be friends—I promise," she says, and the touched look on his face warms her smile still further.
18. Dream
He kneels down next to Grune in the Memorial Garden and starts weeding, and the sunny smile he receives lets him really believe he's in the waking world at last.
19. Candle
He can only hope that one day he'll be as good at gardening as Grune.
20. Talent
No matter how he felt at the start, he always parts company from Grune with a lighter heart.
21. Silence
Sometimes, she thinks, you don't need to say anything at all to have a good time with a friend.
22. Journey
Even a trip down to the bakery is a journey of hours if he lets Grune take the lead.
23. Fire
. . . On second thought, maybe showing off his light arrows would be better.
24. Strength
He admires the way she can face anything unafraid; she admires the way he never lets fear stop him from doing what's right.
25. Mask
She giggles as he shows off his temporary body's skills by tearing about the village in a ball of arms and legs and big Goron belly.
26. Ice
. . . No, better stick with the light arrows.
27. Fall
It takes a bit of patient explaining, but eventually Grune is happily flinging about leaves with the rest of them.
28. Forgotten
Grune might forget some things, like where she's going or what she's doing or even where her house is, but she never forgets how to make him smile.

Finally, he confesses that he doesn't know how, but with a warm smile, she pulls him out to the dance floor anyway—and, in the end, he's glad she did.

Grune hugs him close, and Link is abruptly flung into the wonderful world of puberty.
31. Sacred
One day, shyly, he shows her the Triforce marking on the back of his hand; instead of finding it strange, she only exclaims at how pretty it is.
32. Farewells
Grune doesn't know why Link wrote her a letter—after all, he'll be back soon—but she keeps it with her treasures all the same.
33. World
One day, they manage to get the Battle Dome working so they can finally show each other their homes.
34. Formal
Link is uncomfortable and awkward in the unfamiliar clothes; five minutes and one Grune later, he's chatting as though he lived in fancy dress.
35. Fever
He doesn't remember when they appeared, but the bunches of brilliant flowers covering his bedside table tell him he didn't ride out his sickness alone.
36. Laugh
When an experiment traps him in a clown outfit for a day, Link immediately seeks out Grune: not only wouldn't she laugh, but she wouldn't even understand why anyone would in the first place.
37. Lies
He'd never lie to Grune, because the guilt would eat him alive.
38. Forever
Sitting on the forest floor and eating freshly picked berries with Grune, Link wishes with all his heart for this life to never end.
39. Overwhelmed
Now that he knows—will he ever be able to spend a lazy afternoon with her again?
40. Whisper
Footsteps and cloth against cloth are the only sounds as idly, contentedly, they wander the woods together.
41. Wait
She got lost again, didn't she?
42. Talk
Grune might not be the best at providing answers, but sometimes, that's not what he's looking for.
43. Search
He spots far more falling stars then she does, but she's happy simply to look.
44. Hope
An evening spent playing his ocarina for Grune lets him face the next day of the draft with strengthened resolve.
45. Eclipse
Link keeps reminding her to watch the moon, but she doesn't understand why until she sees the beautiful rust glow of the nighttime eclipse.
46. Gravity
Grune doesn't question why they can't pass the bakery without going inside, and for that, both Link and his stomach are grateful.
47. Highway
They aren't real vehicles, but Link has no desire to find out if a collision between a speeding "car" and an absentminded woman would be fatal.
48. Unknown
"Grune . . . how many friends do you have?"
49. Lock
His fellow residents of House 49 might complain, but Link ignores them: he's not going to make Grune sleep on the streets just because she didn't wander back to her home before her housemates went to bed.
50. Breathe
Fishing at the lake, the only sound Grune's breathing as she naps nearby, Link finds he can't stop smiling, just a bit.
