Summary: Yuan loves the fandalias very much.
Author's Notes: I had a little fun experimenting with the form of this one; unlike my other experiments, I think this one was actually successful. Of course, that's up to you all to decide. :|b

It takes Grune a very long time, but she's finally successful one day just before the beginning of spring. As she's sorting through the seeds in the flower shop, she finds her hand closing around a packet of fandalias.

She stands there in the middle of the shop, staring at the picture of small white blooms on the front and trying to remember. Someone wants to see fandalia flowers very much—who is it?

*

It takes until the seeds have sprouted indoors and the danger of frost has passed for her to remember.

The day she brings the seedlings over to Yuan's garden is the very first day she sees him silent, even a little stunned. He must love fandalias very much, because he helps her plant every last one with gentle, steady hands.

*

Every time they garden together, Yuan spends at least some of his time looking after the fandalias. Grune makes sure to pay careful attention to all the other flowers in his garden, so they won't feel lonely.

She grows a few fandalias in her own garden, too. They're very beautiful flowers, and since they make Yuan so happy, she thinks he would like to see them in lots of places.

When she hears over the journals that Mithos has been hurt, she carefully gathers some fandalias in a jar and sets off to visit him. Mithos isn't a very nice person—he even tried to hurt Dhaos once—but that doesn't mean he should be alone, especially when he's hurt.

Just outside his room in the clinic, she finds Yuan. He looks as though he's waiting for someone and looking very hard for them, even if he's only standing in one place to do it.

When he sees her with her fandalias in hand, ready to spend time with Mithos, Yuan goes pale. He steps in front of her, and when he speaks, there's an odd, too-loud sharpness in his voice.

"No. Absolutely not."

"But he must be very lonely." If he's sad and hurting people, then maybe he doesn't have very many friends. She can help him.

"So lonely, he's likely to take off your head if he sees you," Yuan says right back, still in that same voice. He folds his arms against his body. "You're too trusting, Grune. One of these days, you'll lose your life because you completely refuse to see that not everyone is your friend."

"Oh, I'm sure that won't happen." She gives him a worried look.

His fingers pull the fabric of his shirt tight against his arms. "It will happen, because that's what you get when you trust the wrong people!" He stops and presses a hand to his face. ". . . Give me the flowers. I'll deliver them to him."

". . . All right," she says, because it seems to be very important to him. She hands them over, he takes them, and she adds, "Can you tell him I was here to see him and that I hope he feels better soon?"

Yuan sighs; the sound is harsh in the quiet of the clinic. "I will, but don't expect him to be happy about it."

"Why wouldn't he be happy to have a visitor?" Particularly when he isn't feeling very well. Wouldn't that be something nice?

Yuan shakes his head. "Just—go home, Grune. Water your flowers. They probably need you."

"All right." She smiles at him. "Thank you."

". . . You're welcome."

When she leaves, she doesn't return to her garden right away. Instead, she stops to tend to Yuan's fandalias first. They look very happy, but she pulls out a few tiny weeds from amidst them anyway. It's a good thank-you for someone who loves the fandalias so much.
