Oh yeah, now that I'm remembering it, when I was writing, I also drew inspiration from Lt. Cmdr. Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Dude is a super-gentle pacifist despite being the only major character on the Enterprise-D not to be defeated in battle in the show's seven-year run (this generally happened when he had to fight). But one episode, he ran up against a sociopath. He tried all kinds of peaceful means of resistance, but when the sociopath cruelly murdered a subordinate in front of him largely to test out a new kind of gun, Data said, "I cannot allow this to continue."

He was rescued and the sociopath arrested before he could do anything. But the episode ends with one of his friends saying to him that the gun Data had been holding had been fired a split second before he was beamed out, and Data basically going "I have no idea what you're talking about."

So yeah, there was some of that in there, too. /tl;dr
