AU Lucetific - Baronverse 2/21
Title: 21 Could-Have-Been Years in the Life of Cecil Harvey
Fandoms:
luceti, Tales of Legendia, Final Fantasy IV
Genre: Gen
Rating: This part G; PG overall
Words: 334, ?? overall
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the above media.
Summary: Grune and Cecil settle in to their new life together.
Author's Notes: A short one, as these all were originally intended to be. I'm finding that as Cecil gets older (and Rosa and Kain come into the picture), though, that brevity is increasingly difficult....
"Hello, Lynna!"
Lynna smiles and doesn't sigh as she opens the door to the nursery wider. She then steps to one side. "Hello again, Grune."
On the other side of the room, another nurse is already setting down Cecil as he loudly calls, "Goon!"
Within seconds, he's thudded his way across the rug on hands and knees and is being scooped into Grune's arms for the third time that day. Listening to woman and child giggle in the innocent delight of being reunited, Lynna's smile gets a little larger and the urge to sigh gets a little smaller.
No one had expected Grune to stay as long as she has. They had all assumed it would be a matter of time once His Majesty had given out her description in an attempt to find her family—after all, unfairly beautiful women were hardly a gil a dozen. But, aside from a few shady characters, no one had come forward with even a theory about her origins, and so they'd all gradually accepted her as a permanent resident of Baron Castle.
Her memory has grown no better as time has gone on, and not even His Majesty's personal physician can cure her. But all the same, she seems perfectly happy, and so she's generally regarded with intermixed affection and pity by anyone she befriends.
She's a funny one, Lynna thinks (not for the first time) as she watches Grune play peekaboo with an uproariously entertained Cecil. Sometimes, if she isn't paying attention, her hands seem to remember the oddest things for her. Ask her a question—like "Since when do you know how to change a baby, Lady Grune?" —and everything falls to pieces and someone needs to finish the job for her. But until then. . . .
Well, it isn't important. Lynna shakes her head and turns away. Best take advantage of Grune keeping Cecil's attention to get a little cleaning done. Heavens, but that child could scatter his toys. . . .
