Title: Turn Aside Before the Cock Crows
Fandom: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Genre: AU
Rating & Warnings: PG-13 (violence, death, reference to past dubcon, reference to fictional genocide)
Words: 1260

Summary: Kai Winn had three chances to turn away from the path of the Pah-Wraiths. In DS9's canon, she chose the third. This is what might have happened if she had chosen differently.
Author's Notes: One of my least favourite things about Season 7 is what the writers did to Kai Winn. Her dubcon relationship with Dukat sat extremely poorly with me for many, many reasons. Beyond the obvious, it read to me like punishing a female character with sex for seeking power, and that's just fantastically gross. I may not be a fan of Winn as a person, but as a character, I thought she was terrific until everything went to hell (pun not intended).

That said, this fic also came from the way it seemed to me that Winn had three chances to get off her path to the Pah-Wraiths. In the show, it was when she told Sisko to destroy the book that she finally did, but it was too late for her. I picked out a couple of other moments where things might have gone differently and had fun exploring what could have happened. And I enjoyed myself immensely.

She had strained her ears in a perverse kind of hope that she would once more be cursed by the voices of the Pah-Wraiths. )

Author's Notes: And here we are at the end! Thank you to everyone for reading along with me--this is one of the projects I'm most proud of, so I'm glad I was able to share it with you. Thank you again, too, to my wonderful betas, tinsnip and Yosie! You two are the best. <3

I look forward to seeing all of you the next time! <3

Author's Notes: Not a lot to say about this chapter, really! I pretty much exhausted my wordiness in earlier chapters. So I hope you all enjoy this one as Keiko takes one last, large risk.

First Julian had offered to help, then Odo, now there was Nerys and all the senior staff of the station. She wasn't alone anymore, and neither was the real Miles . . . wherever he was. )

Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong. This chapter: Strategic meetings.
Author's Notes: So, the other thing I had spent a great deal of time thinking about, in addition to how Keiko might be able to realistically deal with a threat on her own, was how to detect Changelings more effectively than using blood samples. I probably spent the better part of a month mulling this over on my various walks, because as intimidating as DS9 made the Founders, once I saw them introduced, I thought there had to be a loophole or two to exploit--otherwise, well, the Federation was doomed.

I didn't write all the ideas I came up with into the fic, though I did cover a good number of them. It was fun to get the chance to put them to use, so yup!

There they were, side by side, two enemies lying in the same bed and feigning sleep. )

Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong. This chapter: Keiko begins her tests and gathers an ally.
Author's Notes: In addition to having fun with working out what Keiko could accomplish on her own with the tools available to her, I also enjoyed filling out her relationships a little more. Due to her low screentime, we didn't really get to see many of her friendships, so it was neat thinking about how things might look with the important people in her life. Fodder for later fics? You never know.

He chuckled and Keiko laughed along with him, hoping as she did that the shrillness of the sound was only in her imagination. )

Summary: When Miles returns from a wartime engineering course, Keiko is glad to have him safe at home again--but soon she realises that all is not well. Now she must gather evidence while protecting her family and without letting on that she knows something is wrong.
Author's Notes: This fic comes from two places. First, I had been a fan of Keiko in TNG, and I had been glad when I started watching DS9 to find that she had made the switch between series with me. However, while she did get some very good writing in some episodes, a lot of the time I got the sense that the writers didn't quite know what to do with her. It frustrated me that not only did she occasionally get stuck in the "nagging wife" role in an attempt at humour, but she actually got written out of the show entirely for over a season so that Miles and Julian could have manly bonding time.

So, I wanted to write something that would let Keiko be the badass I know she is in a realistic way for her skill set. And I hope that here I've achieved it.

The second place, I'll talk about more in later chapters. I'd hate to spoil all of you for my own fic, after all!

Though I didn't realise it until I was writing the second-last scene, there's a song that fits this fic extremely well, and is responsible for its title: "The Spinning Wheel" by Michiru, from the album "World's End Village." You can listen to it here and, if you like it, you can buy the track here. There are no lyrics available on the internet--believe me, I've looked. Instead, the quotes have been transcribed by myself, Yosie, and my friend Angie, who introduced me to the song in the first place. Thank you very much!

And thank you to tinsnip and Yosie for kindly taking the time to beta this for me, and for providing lots of encouragement. You two are the best. <3

And now, onto the fic!

'Welcome home, Miles,' she said and kissed him one more time, for the simple pleasure of being able to. )

Title: The Last Days of Decline
Fandom: Tales of Legendia/The Hunger Games trilogy/[community profile] luceti
Genre: Angst
Rating & Warnings: PG-13 (major character death, violence, dismemberment, trivialisation of mental illness)
Words: 6474

Summary: Katniss isn't sure she likes this new woman from the Capitol. She acts as though none of the rules of District 13 apply to her and she watches Katniss far too closely.

Grune fears for Panem. Try though she might to inspire hope, it may well be that the despair in this world is too great and that Schwartz will claim it in the end.
Author's Notes: As I was reading through the Hunger Games triology, I kept thinking about the ways that this series could be crossed over with Tales of Legendia, and I kept wondering how Grune, whose role is to inspire hope and to save world after world from being claimed by the other half of her soul, could possibly win in a fight for Panem. Exploring the idea is what led me to write this.

I've tried to make this comprehensible for people who only have experience with one work or the other. Tales of Legendia isn't exactly a well-known game, and a lot of Grune's role is left ambiguous in it, so I've also made use of extensive amounts of headcanon. So, um...good luck?

Summary: Two ways Asbel's confession on Fodra could have gotten a little off track. Spoilers for the end of Lineage & Legacies.
Author's Notes: Oh my god this is too stupid to post anywhere but here. What the hell was I even on when I wrote this.

...Um, so, I kinda felt as though Asbel's confession to Cheria was pretty forced, although I'm not a fan of the pairing to begin with. No offence to any shippers of the pairing is intended--it just isn't my cup of tea. So I ended up writing two ways things might have gone wrong...very ridiculously.

Summary: The moment the messages start, Julian knows it's going to be a dangerous shift.
Author's Notes: I am pretty sure this is not what was meant by "anonymous love letters." I am also pretty sure I don't care--I had way too much fun with this. Poor Julian.

He snapped his mouth shut just in time, for the next words on the screen, displayed in stark green letters, were: 'looked particularly handsome this morning.' )

Summary: During a fierce storm, Grune and Ryoji need to protect Luceti--but first, Ryoji needs to become something else.
Author's Notes: One of my big regrets in Luceti is actually sending Grune on the draft that took place during the giant storm. I really, really wanted to have her team up with Ryoji, but ultimately I decided that it had been long enough since her last draft that she was due for another one.

Then I ended up not doing much of anything, thereby wasting both my opportunities. v___v

So, this fic is my attempt to remedy that. I suppose it could be considered the final part to "A Chance Rescue" and "A Chance Visit." Pretty much, I took the scenario that Snarky wrote up for Ryoji on the village post and basically ran with it. I had a lot of fun writing this one (doing fic from Grune's point of view is always a great thought exercise), and I think it turned out fairly well overall. So yup!

Summary: The back cover for the first installment of the latest Alpha Quadrant sensation: Fifty Shades of Grey.
Author's Notes: I'm sure someone must have thought of this before. But when you have Garak, a Cardassian, delivering the following complaint to Dr. Bashir about the Romulans, you can't just leave it alone.

Ah, yes, Romulus. How well I remember it. You'll find the predominant colour to be grey. The buildings, the clothes, the people. Did you know that the Romulan heart itself is grey? It's true. And altogether appropriate for such an unimaginative race.

Summary: There is no balance between good and evil on Giles' Earth, and Grune cannot leave the home of one so loved in such a condition. However, she is not strong enough to right what is wrong on her own.
Author's Notes: So basically this one is me shamelessly indulging my weakness for Grune being a badass. It took me a long time to write, then to dictate and edit, but overall I'm fairly pleased with how it came out.

While I haven't watched all that much of Buffy, I tried to make the appearance of the First Evil what I think would be likely for the show. Even if it isn't what I personally would have gone with, I think this fits in the universe better. I could be completely off base, though.

I apologize in advance for any mistakes I might have made with the canon; I did a lot of reading and looking at images, but yeah.

. . . But, as she travels along the freshly-laid sidewalks, she cannot help but think: in a way, this is a world more desperate than the one for which she currently fights. )

Summary: When a Wii and Mario Kart appear in Luceti's rec centre, Pao-Lin knows exactly who she wants to play with.
Author's Notes: A fic I wrote for Sora's birthday, um, earlier this month. (My brain refused to spit out ideas until the last minute. /shakes fist) It borrows her established Lucetiverse that saw Hubert (from Tales of Graces f) and Pao-Lin (from Tiger & Bunny) continue to grow closer, beyond what had been established in Luceti canon prior to his drop, until they began dating. Being rather unique individuals, their relationship tends to be similarly...unique. :Db

On a side note, I continue to find it impossible to write a Graces-related fic that doesn't mock the hell out of Hubert in some way. Oops.

As always, thanks to Yosie for helping by typing parts of this despite being extremely busy with work right now. Happy birthday, Sora, and I hope you enjoy the show! ♥

Summary: When Giles starts acting very strangely, when he hurts her friends, Grune must keep the promise of their friendship in one of the most difficult ways of all.
Author's Notes: In a nutshell, my take on one of the ways the Vampire!Giles plot in Luceti could have run. I harbour no illusions that this is actually how things would have turned out--but it was fun to write anyway. Ceodore and Selphie's roles were determined by their position on the sign-up lists; everything else came from my brain.

A note for those unfamiliar with Tales of Legendia's canon: The deity of Melfes is Nerifes, which is also the ocean of that world. Thus, any water-element spells also have the dual element of light.

Thank you very much to [personal profile] hickumu for helping me with details of the Los Muertos variety of vampires and how Vampire!Giles would have reacted. Any mistakes are most definitely my own.

Summary: A continuation of the skit Short and Sweet, wherein Hubert attempts to find support for his position. It goes about as well as one might expect.
Author's Notes: While playing Tales of Graces f on the weekend, I picked up this skit. Once Yosie and I finished rolling on the floor from our hysterical gigglefit, we discussed how we thought it ended too early and the way things should have gone instead. And then I went and wrote this.

I'd apologize to Hubert's dignity, but that would imply I'm sorry for taking a great deal of wicked glee out of mocking him. So there's that.

I've just been writing RP-related fic recently and not bothering to post it, and slowly, slowly plugging away at other fic. However, I dashed off this little bit of whut last night and was "DOOO EEET"ed into posting by a certain someone who shall remain nameless (unless he outs himself in the comments...and referring to him as a "him" narrows things down significantly).

Title: The Measure of a Man

Genre: Angst
Rating: PG-13
Words: 682
Disclaimer: I don't own Tales of the Abyss
Summary: Days after the assassination of Emperor Karl V of Malkuth, Peony confronts the first of many hard decisions that will mark his reign.
Author's Notes: This one comes from a discussion [livejournal.com profile] rallalon and I had a couple of nights ago. This aspect of Peony's role as emperor was mentioned only briefly, but it stuck with me, and I wondered: How would a man who exerted every effort to make peace between two bitter enemies react to death on a much smaller scale, and death far closer to home?

There are a few events referenced from my semi-AU Peony headcanon here. First is the assassination of Karl V, Peony's father, which I ficced about here half a year ago. Second is my own personal take on the "struggle for succession" that sent Peony to Keterburg as a child--that Karl VI, heir of Karl V, attempted to assassinate his father and was publicly beheaded. Karl V made all his remaining heirs watch to send a message, including Peony, who was eight at the time.

And before my ramblings become longer than the fic itself, I'll end here.

He'd never sleep. Not when he's killing people tomorrow )

"ND2014: The Emperor of Malkuth, Peony the Ninth, ascends the throne at age thirty-three."

"That's the problem. When faced with a Score of death, people become unable to live peacefully."
Author's Notes: While I could have written this all in one go, considering how inspired I felt, it was emotional enough that I needed to break it into three separate writing sessions. I think I've managed to convey the emotion effectively enough--Yoshimi seemed to think so, anyway.

This can be considered AU, if only because I made up the history for my headspace Peony before I found and began to translate a timeline of recent events in Tales of the Abyss (starting with Jade's birth).

Peony's stomach was already falling before the man on the other side of the door gave his answer: 'There are assassins in the palace!' )

Summary: Peony and Jade have a well-needed conversation after the events of the end of the game.
Spoilers? For the entire game.
Author's Notes: I've been writing this all month, in my writing notebook before class and while waiting for people to log onto AIM. I've had the idea since last December, and while this had to morph a bit to fit the requirements of [livejournal.com profile] karthurcontest (the theme was "happiness" and the rating had to be PG-13 or lower), I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I seriously love the relationship between Peony and Jade.

This is both friendship and involves sex, but I don't think it's a shippy fic. It's not intended to be, anyway. So yeah.
